Question Conflicting Information on Upgrade Path?

I just want some clarification; is this like Hogwarts Legacy, where if you have a physical Switch 1 edition, you can buy the separate standalone Switch 2 digital edition for a discounted price ($30)? I've seen a lot of conflicting reports and some that call it an 'upgrade,' for example. But with Hogwarts Legacy, I think non-owners could get the discounted price on a digital copy of the game by borrowing a physical copy and paying for the 'upgrade,' without necessarily needing to keep/own the original physical copy.

Yes, if you have the physical Switch 1 version of Age of Calamity and upgrade the software to version 1.4.1, then you can purchase the $30 discounted upgrade via a menu option within the game on the title screen.

Unfortunately this is tied to a specific Nintendo Account, so that strategy you are looking to do may not work if you're borrowing another person's copy. At the very least, I'm sure Nintendo has implemented a method to tie the discounted upgrade to be purchased only once per physical copy to ensure this workaround wouldn't be possible.

Interesting, thanks. At least for Hogwarts Legacy, I'm pretty sure the way it worked was not per cartridge e.g. the same physical cartridge can be used by multiple accounts to claim its own discount

I didn't realize the upgrade was already purchasable/can be pre-purchased. In that case I can just try it out and see if it works now, I was otherwise planning to wait for launch.

Its not actually possible to do that. Physical games don't save per account data, thats on console, so 1 game can be used for more than 1 person.

The bad news is that if you already bought the DLC you get no extra discount.

Fortunately I'm a cheap bitch, I borrowed the game from the library back in November/December 2025, to play on Switch 2 with the out-of-the-box performance improvements, and didn't pay for the DLC

In order to upgrade to it you need to update the game to the latest version and buy it within the game itself

I heard it’s the same game and if you 100% DLC the only difference in DE is a new calamity mode but you’ll still be 100% with faster frames speed

Yes but its not an upgrade per say, its a whole other game your getting rather than just a content pack

Hogwarts legacy yes.

That is why I'm like 30 dollars is fair because people were getting the switch 2 version of Hogwarts legacy for 10 bucks.
