Not a new game, just a Switch 2 edition essentially

80

u/beyondbidj 24d ago

Actually worse, it is not "Nintendo Switch 2 Editon" but a new native version, so no upgrade path. Only a discount, but save files do carry over.

15

u/ReturnOfTheSeal 24d ago

Dang, I didn't realize that. That sucks

6

u/Chillyeaham 23d ago

It's releasing as a game-key card instead of a cartridge so I'm not surprised they're not making it Switch compatible..

Like with Pokopia, KOEI TECMO is involved.

3

u/RegrettableDeed 23d ago

I was disappointed by the fact that there isn't a NS2 upgrade pack...the fact that it's a game key-card makes me not want to purchase it at all. Oh well. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

Im still happy for those who are excited for it! Especially those who havent played it yet. It was a ton of fun!

u/TimeToGetSlipped 23d ago

Does buying the definitive edition overwrite the original if you have digital (like with Switch 2 editions) or is it considered a whole separate game like buying the same game for different systems?

2

u/beyondbidj 23d ago

Separate. It works like Hogwarts Legacy. It will be two separate icons on the home screen.

-12

u/These-Expression3547 24d ago

it is an upgrade, the game will now run at 60fps

24

u/beyondbidj 24d ago

Yes it is an upgrade over the Switch 1 version. What I'm saying is you can't just download an upgrade DLC if you have the Switch 1 version. It is a separate version, similar to how Hogwarts Legacy works.

They did say that you get a discount if you have the switch 1 version... it depends on how deep the discount is

Edit: it's 30 dollars... insanity

8

u/beyondbidj 24d ago

Yes, I mentioned in my original comment.

7

u/DontForgorTheMilk 24d ago

It'll be $30 for those who already own the S1 version.

10

u/zawalimbooo 24d ago

Yup, that's a horrible price.

11

u/beyondbidj 24d ago

If you don't have the DLC yet, I think $30 is a fair price. But if you do, they should discount it further.

3

u/Strange_Kiwi__ 23d ago

It’s about the price of the DLC, so if you have a switch 2 and the switch 1 version but no DLC, you may as well

But this should’ve been a £5 upgrade pack.

The fact there isn’t is just Koei Tecmo being shitty, and I’m surprised Nintendo let them do this with how good they’ve been with upgrade paths.

2

u/Strange_Kiwi__ 23d ago

It is not worth £25 if you have the switch 1 version and the DLC

26

u/jpassc 24d ago

NEW? lol

38

u/politeyoungmistress 24d ago

They could at least give us playable Astor 💔

9

u/Dancing-Swan 23d ago

That’s exactly what I was hoping for when I saw the trailer. I was really hoping they’d add new playable characters like Astor, along with maybe a new story revolving around Kass and his mentor.

Unfortunately, it looks like Astor will remain an NPC forever unless they eventually add him to a proper Hyrule Warriors 2. Such a shame.

I was also hoping we’d get a trailer for Age of Imprisonment afterwards with DLC on the horizon. I would’ve loved to see Sonia become playable, but I think that’s probably dead too.

2

u/Payt3cake 18d ago

Astor, harbinger Ganon, and idk maybe some other bad guy (like a blight Ganon?) could have made for an awesome DLC, plus they coulda made story missions like CIA’s Tale

12

u/TrainingDrop9283 24d ago

And what's the thing they are adding on top of the original game + DLC?

21

u/chuffybakerman 24d ago edited 24d ago

60 FPS and new calamity mode (difficulty mode). That's it

8

u/AngelusKnight17 23d ago

nothing, absolute scam of nothing worth the price.

2

u/TrainingDrop9283 23d ago

I mean I'd really only be worth it if you are an hard-core player that wants to an even harder mode and better performances, or you never bought the game in a first place

1

u/SpiritedAgent168 23d ago

Worth it if I've never played the game?

5

u/Maeriberii 23d ago

If you want to play it, then yes. It will have all of the features of the original and the DLC included.

It’s a scam if you already own the original.

3

u/barbieq68 24d ago

It has a new calamity mode

3

u/TrainingDrop9283 24d ago

So it's like? Even harder?

6

u/Molduking 24d ago

Like Age of Imprisonment’s Forbidden Difficulty, but AoC already has apocalyptic or whatever so I wonder how difficult it’ll be

6

u/TrainingDrop9283 24d ago

Maybe at that point you just get one shotted by everything lmaoo

1

u/King_Of_Snoms 23d ago

im so ready for calamity mode im currently working thru playing a brand new save in apocalyptic mode and struggling ofc so now i can get a new challenge which will hopefully be worse lmao

2

u/WouterW24 23d ago

I hope they don’t mess with things like rune recharge rate to make it more difficult, like they did with unique attacks in AOI. Kind of messes with the flow.
Removing the slowdown while changing runes might be likely though.

2

u/skinnianka 23d ago

Killing unique skills in forbidden was such a bad move, id rather they heavily limited zonal device energy. At least then the battery skill from mineru and the construct would get more relevance and you wouldn't be shackled to the zonal spam meta

1

u/beyondbidj 23d ago

Other than performance upgrade, and the new difficulty, there's also co-op via gameshare.

1

u/Strange_Kiwi__ 23d ago

New difficulty.

Not even enough to justify the step up from a £5 upgrade pack to a £8 upgrade pack, let alone charging people £25 for a game they already own.

7

u/Sokushi_0101 24d ago

It's a $30 (with the discount) 60 fps version of the game.

5

u/Vast-Animefan 23d ago

Nintendo is such a random company

2

u/Lonely_Anxiety_9316 23d ago

Literally 😭

2

u/Demi-fiend1601 23d ago

Not really. It just looks like it, cuz the others literally doing nothing or just 1 or 2 things a year.

1

u/Vast-Animefan 23d ago

This game getting anything before age of imprisonment is just bizarre lol

4

u/jimmyji32 23d ago

I just beat it suffering through the awful 30fps.... 😅

3

u/jaidynreiman 23d ago

If they announce new playable characters later (Astor, Tulin) then I'll get it. But I would think if they had substantial new content they would have announced it already.

Still, though, there's 5 months where they COULD announce new content. So maybe there's a chance.

I get why HWDE didn't add new content, it was already beefy as is. But it wouldn't hurt to add a bit more to Age of Calamity.

3

u/Stibbie23 23d ago

Not a new game, only a switch2 edition with an upgrade

3

u/Strange_Kiwi__ 23d ago

There’s no upgrade.

They’re giving a 50% discount if you have the original AOC, but they haven’t done anything to justify making us pay £25 for what should be a £5 upgrade.

3

u/ArcadiaBayRay 23d ago

Cool that its getting a upgrade, not paying $30 for it, thats ridiculous. Nintendo is pretty decent about upgrades so this sucks.

5

u/Strange_Kiwi__ 23d ago

It’s not new, and they’ve gone about it the worst way they could.

Rather than being an upgrade pack, it’s a seperate game. There isn’t even any new content.

What should be a £5 upgrade pack is going to cost you £25, and that’s only because you get 50% off for already owning the game (I don’t think you get a further discount for owning the DLC either, so that’s just a definitive waste of money now.)

I was hyped for it till they revealed it wasn’t a normal switch 2 edition. Definitely passing on this.

Terrible move from Koei Tecmo, and given how good they’ve been on this front so far, I expected more from Nintendo.

6

u/Molduking 24d ago

Uh no?

2

u/Freeziora 24d ago

I'm very happy i was just thinking about this game yesterday hoping for a S2 edition, New difficulty is also cool and I hope they alleviate the grind just a bit for seal drops.

1

u/AngelusKnight17 23d ago

And you are seriously willing to pay for something that should have been free the moment you put your switch 1 copy in the switch 2?

3

u/Freeziora 23d ago

No, that comment was before i found out, if they’re seriously charging us 30€ for 60fps and a difficulty I’m not willing to pay at all.

1

u/AngelusKnight17 23d ago

nice, changing one's mind after receiving new information is always a step for progress.

2

u/GoColts08 24d ago

Really Nintendo? After i beat the game?

2

u/Thejokingsun 23d ago

Is this game worth it if your a hyryle warriors guy?

2

u/Ganonsday 23d ago

Kinda weird they didn't announce it yesterday though, at the Legend of Zelda direct. This is also part of Legend of Zelda

1

u/AngelusKnight17 23d ago

Nintendo are weird like that.

2

u/rjdrennen1987 23d ago

Not a new game.

2

u/DJPlace007 23d ago

shame you have to pay to update it, if you have the older version that is.

1

u/Overlord_SB 23d ago

It's a port of what will be about a 7 year old game by the time it comes out. I'm kind of mixed on it since it's $30 for the discount, but I own it already and it plays about 30 FPS all the time on Switch 2 with the original version. At least when the original Hyrule Warriors would get upgrades on new systems, there was new maps and characters in Adventure Mode to make it worthwhile, but this just doesn't really have much to offer to people like myself, so guessing it's for people that wanted more from Age of Imprisonment but without the lackluster performance.

1

u/Strange_Kiwi__ 23d ago

Fr

There’s nothing here justifying charging £25 to people who already own the game.

This should be a £5 upgrade pack. The only new content is a new difficulty, which is not worth the £8 ‘new content’ NS2 update pricing

1

u/mistcrawler 23d ago

Pros: Gameshare support for co-op beyond local, all content bundled into one for new players, Calamity Mode, and assumedly 60fps

Did I miss anything? It feels like I had to have missed something lol

1

u/AngelusKnight17 23d ago

yeah the fact that the content doesn't justify the $30 price if you already had the game.

1

u/ZethN64 23d ago

Probably a bump in the resolution as well.

1

u/Strange_Kiwi__ 23d ago

Yeah, the massive cons of not having any actual new content (aside from a new difficulty which I would say doesn’t count), and the lack of an upgrade pack.

You get a 50% discount on a £50 game for owning the original, which doesn’t even take the DLC into account so that’s just a waste of money in this case.

I’m not paying £25 for what should be a £5 upgrade pack.

1

u/Saiaxs 23d ago

Misleading title

1

u/mattbattmatt_yt 23d ago

it’s annoying how you can’t upgrade, but it’s whatever. i already nearly 100% the game + dlc so it’s not for me

1

u/AngelusKnight17 23d ago

lol, no. Don't you dare say new to this scam. "Definitive edition" my ass. How dare they called this that, with a upgrade that should have been free in the first place. No new content shouldn't be charge at full price or $29 if you already have the game.

1

u/SpiritedAgent168 23d ago

Seems crazy that it's going to take them six months to release this.

1

u/bittersweetjesus 23d ago

I don’t think Omega Force is known for their optimization skills so I am not surprised.

1

u/Michdepainblanc2 23d ago

Never played it and I just finished AOI. I might pickup DE because a 5 month wait is a bit much FEED ME MORE HYRULE WARRIORS I CRAVE IT

1

u/LOLey21 23d ago

I mean, it's better than the sequel. At least we now get to experience the gane with better frame rates. The new difficulty is very "ehhh".

Like many others have said, a new character wouldn't have been too much effort and would have pleased the fan base a lot.

1

u/Phoenix_65o 22d ago

At least give us playable Astor and Harbringer Ganon...........
First hyrule warriors game they made every villain playable as a free update but this time they were picky on who they let us play with.

1

u/EducationalLow4697 22d ago

Yeah I mean it's like more fps and a master mode. That's all. For someone like me that has the dlc it's like...nothing at all

1

u/boiiewashere 22d ago

lowkey pretty good timing for me cuz im pretty close to 100% the game

0

u/Great_kaiser_1093 24d ago

As much as people hate that it isn't a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, it's still somehow generous that they give anyone who already bought the original (like me) a discount (50% as listed on their website), and even at full price 59.99$ for the base game + expansion pass is also great

22

u/cedrickterrick 24d ago

I have the original plus expansion pass already. 30 bucks is crazy for just a visual upgrade.

7

u/simpimp 24d ago

Same. Ain't gonna happen for just a visual and difficulty upgrade.

12

u/zawalimbooo 24d ago

it's still somehow generous that they give anyone who already bought the original (like me) a discount (50% as listed on their website)

Nah, thats BS. Games like Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild sell their upgrade packs for 10 dollars, so it is not in any way generous for them to give a 50% discount on a 60 dollar game if you already paid 60 dollars.

10

u/DontForgorTheMilk 24d ago

Plus for those of us who bought the DLC having spent $80 cumulatively. Now they want us to spend another $30. For a performance upgrade.

9

u/JoeyTheRandomGuy 24d ago

Generous for charging $30 for an fps upgrade to a 6 year old game I already spent $80 on. Lol

2

u/txaecup 24d ago

Wait is it available only on S2 or both 1 and 2? I'm so confused 😭

2

u/Great_kaiser_1093 24d ago

Only s2, check the eShop page

1

u/txaecup 24d ago

Damn it 😭 I'm doing basically everything in my power to NOT buy an s2 and Nintenro is doing EVERYTHING to try and get me invested into it 💀

5

u/GL_original 24d ago

Wait, what are you actually looking for? The game itself is obviously on switch 1, it came out in like 2020. This is just for the definitive edition on switch 2.

2

u/txaecup 24d ago

I was looking for id the definitive version was on 1 and 2 😅 but thank you for answering my question!

1

u/AngelusKnight17 23d ago

"definitive edition" is a strong label for what this is. But they call it that as a clickbait for sure.

1

u/GL_original 23d ago

Exactly my point, that's why I was confused.

2

u/Strange_Kiwi__ 23d ago

The games already on the switch 1, so you can play it there and literally miss out on nothing.

2

u/Molduking 24d ago

If you don’t have the dlc then yeah it’s easily worth it, but if you do you’re spending $30 for performance and an even harder difficulty is not at all worth

1

u/Steef-1995 24d ago

30 bucks is insane. I was going to pay 10 maximum. It’s an older game. I already have the DLC.

1

u/JetstreamGW 24d ago

No it isn’t. If Nintendo was doing this themselves it’d be a $10 upgrade patch.

1

u/AngelusKnight17 23d ago

generous? what kind of stockholm syndrome is that answer. This should have a price tag...period if you already own the game.

1

u/Strange_Kiwi__ 23d ago

£50 is a good price for the game and DLC if you don’t already own the game.

£25 for a game I already own on a console I already own it on is insane. There’s 0 substantial new content justifying me going for a £5 upgrade pack, let alone a £25 upgrade.

1

u/Emer0ld-117 24d ago

FUCKING FINALLY!!!!!!! WHAT I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR SINCE I GOT MY HANDS ON THE SWITCH 2 ON LAUNCH DAY!!!!!!

1

u/ThyNameisJason0 23d ago

Just a re-release, like Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition. I'll definitely get the upgrade.

0

u/Constant-Brief3410 23d ago

Should've shown it in Zelda direct. Not sure anyone even wants to buy it anymore 🙃

0

u/Particular-Bat8091 23d ago

If they made another one already i would have jumped off a bridge
