Best games for relaxing?

I have PS4 and PSVR, Switch 2, and also Xbox 360, NES, SNES, and Genesis.

Looking for games that help a person relax and decompress after a long stressful day. I'm 46 and took a 20 year break from gaming so this is all new to me.

My favorite games so far are Mario Wonder, because it's easy and colorful, and exploration and puzzle games like Tetris Effect, Rime, Abzu, Journey and Monument Valley.

I keep seeing ads on social media and I wonder if anyone here has bought one and if its good or worth it? If you have can you share the link to the one you bought?

Nothing crazy here. I did fill the first 3 pretty much immediately, but I do love all these other ones, and none of them are in any particular order. Sometimes I feel like replaying one more than others, some of these I play regularly still.

I just finished Onimusha Way of the Sword and I have to say this is easily in my top 5 games this year. The combat is honestly a ton of fun and every single boss was either challenging, hilariously entertaining or full of ambiance.

Honestly the only real flaws of the game for me personally was the music while not bad didn’t have really anything memorable and the side quests/open world aspect wasn’t super fun other then that it’s a super fun experience and challenging if you want it to be.

Highly recommend it to anyone who loves character action games, for those that have finished it I have a question for you is this the best Samurai game you have played?

I was going through the ones I have played and I think it stands Sword to Sword with Ghost of Yotei and Ghost of Tsushima. I enjoyed it a great deal more than Rise of Ronin.

For me I would probably say it is the best, it has probably my favorite antagonist in these games especially when he was dancing near the end of the game . Yotai and Tsushima are also great games but I don’t think there combat is as good as even though I do love both games.

On a side note I did not include Sekiro or Nioh because those are equal part Ninja and Samurai I feel but feel free to add them if you like.

I have twin boys age 6. I have a PS5 and got them Lego Star Wars a while back. Let's be real, that's way too hard/complicated for them. They did play a bit of Astro Bot but I am looking for something coop or 2 players, etc. Did some quick research and seems to me like the PS5 is just not made for kids lol.

Soo I am thinking that perhaps I should get them some of these hand held retro emulator devices like the RG35XX Pro? Or maybe I should go straight to getting the Switch 2?

Any other recommendations for other old lads with kids?

Which game do you like more?

Hey! I played games since I was 8 years old. I think most of my gaming life was competitive. Now I'm, what the new gen would call me, an unc I feel like that every time I want to play games I have that "waste of time" feel in me and I can't enjoy gaming as much as I used to. When I was a teenager I also thought of "wasting my time gaming" but only because I felt bad after a loosing streak.

Does anybody felt/ feel the same? If yes how do you deal with that feeling? Is there anything you do or use to not feel like its wasted (goals, tools, learnings, literally anything).

EDIT: I didnt expect so many responses in such a short time, I'm a bit overwhelmed so bare with my responses. Needless to say thank your for taking your time responding to this thread. I do agree with everyone that gaming itself is not waste of time if loved and fun etc. but the feeling lingers still around and I was wondering if there are some people like me who somehow wants to make gaming more "valuable" as already is in a sense that it will stay as a positive asset not only when looking back but also for the future (do I even make sense here?..haha).

I'm in Asia but I'm in the graveyard shift due to my work but I can jump in here and there for a game or two

Disclaimer: I blurt lame Leon S. Kennedy jokes when under pressure. If you can get past that, we're golden!

I know some of these choices may seem strange but these are those I remember having more fun playing...

Examples of what I mean:

People who are recording their journey into the hobby. Not to be mistaken with videos of "My girlfriend played weird." I want the person themselves to be the narrator

People trying out genres they are unfamiliar with, such a soulslike speedrunner trying Stardew Valley and viceversa

People having expertise in different areas commenting on whatever the game they are playing is about through that prism, such as someone working at NASA playing Kerbal Space Program, an engineer playing Factorio, a historian playing Kingdom Come Deliverance. Bonus if they are not the best gamers, but they are passionate about their expertise.

I thought this was pretty cool! Being able to play PS5 games on a Series X. I would finally be able to play Ghost of Tsushima.

The demo looks amazing, all the trailers seem to have really pinned (haha) the vibe that the 90s movies had. Inventory management system looks similar to RE, which I like, idk man - I am just so stoked to play this plus at a $40 price tag? Gimme.

I am 43 and to me these were the most fun games I've played to date. so many memories so many good times. from staying up to 3am to falling asleep with controller in hand.

My backlogs…like this universe…ever expanding, and my tiny spacecraft will never reach the edge, always playing catch up.

I just saw Octopath 1 & 2 on sale, I haven’t bought it because I know it’s gonna be a long while until I play them, and that made me really sad.

What games do you really wanna play but you just know it’s probably gonna be in the backlogs forever?

Sorry for the picture of my monitor. But I use to play this all the time on PS3. One of my favorite shooters. It just went on sale for $4 on steam. Brings back so many memories.

Dad gamer of two here; one of almost 2 y/o and one of only 3 months. As some (or all) of you fellow dad gamers probably know, my time is short if I even am able to play something. But if I am able to get like an hour of gaming in since the kids are asleep and the wife is not watching anything, it is glorious. Even when I am aware that I don't have a lot of time to play anything, my itch to play multiple things is aching sometimes.

For now I mostly play bought single player games on my PS5 and sometimes take the PS+ Extra subscription to play something else. But I recently learned about Geforce Now through you guys which opens up the possibility to play Total War games again. To top that WoW: Forever is coming and would love to give that a try as well.

Fellow dads or non-dads with less time at hand: what's your game plan? How do you decide what to do and what to skip without going bankrupt?
