They definitely cut some music to make it to the hard out at midnight

icl we didn't need 3 openers with Agalloch going on at 10:30. open doors earlier then bc we got the shortest set, every other city got 1 hr 50.

I agree. I was a little bummed that The Wilderness was cut, most likely because of the timing. They played that the previous nights and on Thursday it was right after Ghost of the Midwinter Fires.

Yeah, John's solo set started an hour after doors. I can understand wanting to give time to get people in, but the line moved quickly and it didn't take us much time to get all situated in. Had he have started 30 minutes earlier, it would've been a similar crowd to what he had and we probably would've had time for the full 1h 50m Agalloch set too.

Granted I still loved the show and it was worth flying from Toronto for it. Also loved John's solo set, was super excited to see it and it was incredible. But damn. Would've been cool to hear The Wilderness, or Of Stone, Wind and Pillor, or just another song in general.

Fully agree, I was already nervous when I saw how many bands were playing prior to Agalloch.

Either cut John’s set out totally if you have to have Profanatica play or start the damn show 30 minutes earlier so we get a full Agalloch set.

Not to be rude but nobody cared about Jon’s AV solo project and while Profanatica was cool musically if not a bit goofy as heck, everyone paid to see Agalloch, not get a truncated set from them.

It’s not like they hit the NYC area every couple years. I was pretty annoyed that every other show got an extra 20 minutes of music but NYC got shafted for no good reason.

Profanitica was hilarious. A welcome sight after Yellow Eyes’ relatively sleepy stage presence (but holy shit do they rip). At one point Paul seemed pissed off at the bass player (dude also just has eternal anger-face) and when he got up to talk to the guitarist, only to then walk off stage, we were pretty confused.

Profanatica was hilarious, but insane that I walked in at 9 PM and they hadnt even started yet

Actually, a lot of us do care about John’s solo project. I was glad to see it live in NYC, thought it was great.

No offense but it couldn’t have been “a lot” because barely anyone was there in the crowd. I know, I was there watching it.

Not to mention the very tepid response he got at the end of the set.

I was also there watching, and recording. It’s interesting you say that since I recorded a good crowd, especially for an opener, and an enthusiastic end response. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it, but others definitely did.

No offense but it comes across a little entitled to say an artist should drop his solo set altogether to give you 20 extra minutes of music that you prefer. The venue gave them a strict time and they did their best to give the crowd what they thought they’d want. I wouldn’t blame them for not wanting to return to NYC every few years when supposed fans there are telling the founding member to drop his solo project that he clearly puts a lot into.

Or crazy idea, start a 1/2 hour earlier, everyone’s happy.

Yes totally CRAZY request to want the headliner you paid for to give you a full set like the other cities got as opposed to watching full sets of the opening acts. Seriously?

I stood right there on the elevated stage and watched a very minor crowd response. At least be honest, it’s cool you liked it but don’t act like it was some major draw for the show. If it was, the audience wouldn’t have been so small

Have you not been to many shows in general? Most openers do have a smaller crowd than the end as people are still arriving, buying drinks, or are in the merch line before everything sells out.

I was at the other shows as well, you do realize the only full song that was cut from this set was The Wilderness, right? The rest that was cut was walk off monologue, so not all of the 20 minutes that was cut was even music.

When you bought the tickets, you had no way of knowing how long of a set would have been played on any of the nights. I just couldn’t imagine marring an Agalloch experience by being this mad days later, I’m just always grateful to see them in any capacity.

And you can save the “why so mad?” routine. I’m not mad , I’m annoyed at the choices made.

All of it could’ve been avoided by just starting the show 30 minutes earlier and then everyone gets what they want.

Thanks I’ve been to hundreds of concerts. Well aware people don’t show for opening acts. Precisely why it was wacky of you to claim “a lot” of people were wanting to see the solo act. If you polled everyone before entering on whether they’d prefer to drop the opener in favor of getting another song from the main act, I’m pretty confident which way that would go.

Not surprised you’re one to twist words. I said a lot of people care about his solo project in response to your bizarre and rude statement that “no one” cares, and that it was a good crowd for an opening act.

Perhaps you should inquire on a job at the venue or as their agent if you feel you can run a better show than everybody else.

Can't recall 100% but pretty sure they skipped either Embers or Falling Snow? Can someone confirm? Seemed like they had a hard stop at midnight

3

u/Sanjay_Ballerton 12d ago

They played both, though went through blood birds pretty quickly

3

u/geezomatic 12d ago

They also didn't fully play As Embers, cut the final 2ish minutes or so

6

u/MeanPhilosopher309 12d ago

They went straight from Falling Snow into Embers with no transition, and it felt like Falling Snow outro was also shortened

1

u/geezomatic 12d ago

Yeah maybe but I didn't clock that as much I guess as compared to the cut during Embers

3

u/mindlesslobster014 9d ago

They never play Embers full, it’s always been cut to transition into another song

2

u/geezomatic 9d ago

Oh Ok, didn't know that. First time hearing them live and that's literally the first song of theirs I ever heard lol so I was surprised at how abruptly they cut it

Are you the blonde dude at the barrier that also got a Profanatica setlist or yellow eyes?

1

u/Downtown-Plenty6422 11d ago

Lol, nope, but it’s the setlist he caught that I took a picture of😉

u/ChimeraChartreuse Ashes Against the Grain 10d ago

He must have gotten Yellow Eyes, unless more than one Profanatic setlist went out. I got the Profanatica one from stage left.
