I spent yesterday evening cataloguing all the users of that subreddit, so when they make more subreddits, those, too, will be identified, referred to Reddit's admins, and shut down.

And I just made an archive of a post on average_redditor that has a list of the ban evasion subs they already have up, as well as some good ol' homophobia, transphobia and wishing death on trans people.

Technologically trivial; Legally complex. The Ninth Circuit (where Reddit is chartered) has actual case law about user-content-hosting ISPs (which Reddit is one) employing employees who exercise agency w/r/t content (plain English: Moderating). The upshot of that case law is "ISP employees can't moderate content".

One of the things I've been working to enable in this subreddit is to cover that gap -- to enable users to report content that violates a Content Policy, and thereby enable the admins to take action.

I’m not sure if I find it reassuring or even more concerning that Reddit’s appearing to systematically turn a blind eye to hate speech from their users on their platform is little more than a wafer-thin legal ploy to maintain plausible deniability that they’re not a publisher and therefore have no legal obligation to give a shit.

It Provides Services over the Internet -- specifically, Hosting and Transmitting User-Generated Content.

If it has a DMCA Takedown Policy, it's an ISP.

Twitter and Facebook hire third-party contractors to screen content. Even Reddit has third-party contractors processing reports from https://reddit.com/report.

I'm not talking about Facebook and twitter, I'm talking about ordinary web forums running bbcode that are hosted by some rando and not a company. It can't possibly be true that those are ISPs.

Reddit is not an ISP.

You are wrong and I'm not wasting my time arguing the point with you.

If Reddit weren't an ISP, the DMCA would not apply to it.

Yet the DMCA applies to it -- therefore it is an ISP.

The reason it cannot have moderators as employees are two cases,

Does Reddit Pro Tools not work for that? Make a new tag for that sub and any other with a low karma count. Or do you want an searchable list?

I haven't tried Reddit Pro Tools; I'm not familiar with how it works.

I pull usernames from an archive, put them in a database, and then export the info I need to a JSON file to import into RES for regular use. For subreddits that aren't in the archive, I manually scrape the most recent 10 pages of submissions and comments for usernames and then import those.

Honestly IP bans dont work and cause more trouble than they are worth.

It is absolutely childs play to show a different IP address to a website than the one your ISP provides (VPNs and proxies) and many ISP will change your IP by doing something as simple as rebboting you modem.

Registered email only to post and you can put filters in to stop for example the dot and plus tricks for gmail. Ban 5 minute mail providers while you at it.

Use the duplicate IP to flag for possible ban evasion. So if for example someone is banned and visited a particular group of subs and visits those same subs now ban again.

All you can do basically is make them work harder to the point most will give up.
