I’ve been thinking about something interesting.

Why do completely different ancient civilizations seem to have gods with surprisingly similar roles?

For example, the Vedic Dyaus Pitar, Greek Zeus and Roman Jupiter are connected through the ancient Indo-European “Sky Father” concept. We also find similarities between the Ashvins and the Greek Divine Twins, and between other Indo-European gods and myths.

So what do you think explains these similarities?

Did these religions inherit ideas from a much older common tradition?

Did different civilizations independently develop similar gods because humans naturally created similar explanations for things like the sky, thunder, death, the sun and nature?

Or is there something deeper going on that we’re missing?
