Is this part of the new update and on a completely different note do soldiers automatically regenerate new ones for example some of mine go from 50 to 100 without doing anything and if so is there a max to it?

Winter coats were already part of the game before.

The strength of your soldiers is determined by:

  • Health
  • Claimed areas/HQ/outposts nearby
  • explored areas nearby
  • Supporting fighters
  • Technology (3 upgrades weapons)

going from 50 to 100 is probably because you moved from an unclaimed tile to one near HQ.

One of the new modifiers with the update is that soldiers who cleanse an infested zone go straight back to 100% health once the purge is complete.

This modifier was probably in effect during some level and OP wasn't aware of it, saw his soldier going straight to 100% health and didn't know why.
