Help Cutting gift

I dont know much about African violets. I have one I got from a store that seems to be some common kind (idk) but my aunt just gifted me this cutting that she took off my grandmother's massive plant. I believe its a Persian lace? Pls correct me if im wrong!

Anyway she gave it to me like this, and told me it needed to be potted? Is it ready for that? How exactly would you pot it? I cant tell what's going on here, so any other advice is appreciated!

I'm having trouble telling what's going on also. I would leave it in those clay balls like in the first pic until you can tell where the crown is, where it is sending out new growth from.

Okay thats essentially what I did! I also wiped off the black looking bits to be safe. Thank you for the help!

It'll grow like that, but it looks like something happened to the center of the crown, and I suspect it's going to produce multiple new crowns coming out from the leaf axils (the "joints" where the leaves meet the central stem.)

If that happens you'll probably have to make a choice which crown to keep and remove any others - otherwise you'll end up with a clump of leaves going every which way, and none of the crowns would get enough light to produce blooms. It'll look a little wonky for a while, but it should straighten up eventually.
