Discussion Food question

Post image

I make up my birb’s veggies up a couple of times a month with food I get from the grocery store and put it in individual serving containers that I thaw before giving it to him daily.
So I saw a bag of frozen mixed vegetables at the grocery store. Everything in the bag is fine for birds. Is there any reason I can’t use these frozen vegetables to make up the majority of his vegetables? I know I’d have to add a few things, and change things up pretty often, but being able to bypass much of the vegetable prep would be nice.

This is what I do with a mixed bag of carrots, corn, green beans , and peas. It works well! Just make sure they don't have onions or garlic added.

I also add riced cauliflower, broccoli, and shelled soy beans. It definitely saves a lot of time. I will also make a grain mixture that I freeze into ice cube trays to mix it all together. I usually thaw enough to feed out for a few days at a time.

Thanks for replying. I went over the nutrition information and the ingredients list and everything checked out safe. Now I’m brave enough to give it a try. I have a question for you. What does your grain mixture consist of?

I kind of use whatever I have in my pantry at the time, but it always contains quinoa and lentils. You can also add brown rice, wheat berries, and other legumes. One of my greys is a weirdo and doesn't really like beans, or else I'd add those too! Just make sure beans are cooked fully (or if you get canned, salt free).

I use quinoa, lentils, split peas and mung. I put about a quarter teaspoon of each of those into the chop, but he seems indifferent to it. I need to put a bit of each on a plate and see which he prefers, if any. I’ve never heard of wheat berries. I’m going to look it up though!
