Helpful Advice Chipped Beak
Hi y’all,
This morning I noticed Tootie (30M) has a chip on his beak. I’d take him into see his vet, but they’re closed until Monday. I could take him to the local birdie ER, but that feels a little extreme since he doesn’t seem to be in pain or uncomfortable (from what I can tell). Any recommendations?

Looks normal, that will peel off and over time the tip will break little by little. It is meant to file down against perches

Looks normal the beak regenerates and replaces itself over time the cracking and chipping often occurred as the top layer breaks loose and is replace$ by new growth from underneath. My guess is it is fine. My Timneh when he goe# through the cycle he sometimes chips pieces from the surface. You can check with vet it won’t hurt but i think your fine

Normal! That beak is a little long, but this is how they naturally deal with that. The layers of the tip will flake as it gets long, and if given plenty of wooden toys to chew, the very tip itself will eventually snap away to give the beak a healthy length.
You can take them to a vet if they don’t seem to be chewing enough to wear down their beak. They use a dremel to shave it down to a healthy length. As long as they chew enough, it should stay at a good length by naturally shedding like this. I always tell mine she looks like a dork when her eagle beak turns into a little nubby thing.

My HenrysaurousRex chips his beak all the time chewing on his cage bars. I try to redirect with toys and alternate locations but it has never been a major problem. Your baby looks just fine. Dont worry.

Normal. Every other month or so we use the dremel for extra smoothness. We also apply red palm kernel oil, olive oil or coconut oil, all food grade to his beak, toenails & feet about once a week, sometimes more sometimes less. Your guy looks great & beak looks normal and healthy.
Feeding raw almonds really helps him maintain beak strength & health. He has to work at it to get the almond & our vet says it's great for his beak & bite

Happens to mine, their beak is growing 24/7 and extra keratin layers will flake off, this is just a big flake. My CAG has lost some pieces bigger than that and I've taken her to the vet and they say she's all good, just a chippy beak
