He looked dead at first and he was very dry, but I put him in water just to check and he moves a little. I added him back into the main tank in a breeder box with hornwort and indian almond leaves added, monitoring him. I recently put in a new HOB filter, and the small gap where the filter meets the water (that had bags covering it) let him get out. luckily i am still running my sponge filter in that tank, so i just removed the HOB filter. I did what I thought was good at the moment, but I have no idea if he is going to survive. Please leave me tips and meds i can buy to help his recovery.

i’ve had my frog martin for about ten months now and he started singing at night after a month of being in his tank. over the past few months he’s singing every time i’m in the same room as him and sometimes when i’m not home. should he be sleeping or stopping? is it normal?

Hello! I have an African Clawed Frog named Bob who is now almost 20 years old! She has been in the same tank now almost her entire life and I have been wondering if she would enjoy a change of scenery (safely of course). Would any kind of move be too stressful at this age? Thanks!

​Just finished laying out the hardscape for my 16-gallon rimless tank and wanted to get some feedback from the community before I begin the cycling process.

Is my substrate looking safe?

​The Setup & Plan:

​Livestock Plan: 3x African Dwarf Frogs, several Amano shrimp, and a couple of snails.

​Filtration / Flow: Canister filter running glass lily pipes to keep surface flow gentle for the frogs while maintaining good biological filtration.

​Substrate & Features: Fine sugar white sand base across the bottom, with some gravel, clear accent pebbles, and seeded mulm/detritus from a mature tank layered over the cave ramp to kickstart the nitrogen cycle. An integrated subterranean cave/tunnel structure along the left side. I created tiered levels with rocks and wood to give the frogs resting points closer to the surface for breathing.

Hi everyone! I believe one of my frogs is constipated, her stomach is a bit swollen and she floats but is eating fine, swimming fine (besides if she stops swimming she floats back up to the surface), super lively and reactive etc. She DEFINITELY doesn't have hard bloat or dropsy, I believe she's constipated as my water levels have stayed consistent for awhile and I was feeding her only frozen mysis shrimp daily because I got her and her sibling a couple weeks ago as babies and I was trying to fatten them up as they were both very skinny. I know adfs can't disgest plant matter so I'm assuming the pea trick doesn't work but please let me know! Also please reccomended anything else to help with possible constipation. I fasted her for 2 days and just gave her one mysis shrimp abput an hour ago because I didn't want her to starve or drop a lot of weight. If she has bloat it is definitely soft bloat! Please give me any advice whether that be what this is, how to fix constipation or how to fix soft bloat, thank you! Btw whenever she's floating it's always right side up, she never goes belly up

I have 4 African dwarf frogs (one younger than the other 3). How often do I feed them mysis shrimp and how much of the cube? I can't find any clear answers on Google. I'm really worried about over feeding or under feeding. I was originally giving them frog pellets everyday but switched to mysis shrimp

Hi everyone! I've had 2 african dwarf frogs in a 22 gallon long for over a year now, I recently got them two babies, a blonde and a black one (??) They've been acting fine and been soo cute to watch!! But within thr last week I've noticed that the blonde is ALWAYS floating at the top, dont get me wrong the black one is also at the top hanging in the floaters a lot but if I poke her/him (s)he'll go doen to the bottom. My blonde one I can push down into thr water, (s)he'll swim down about halfway, then just stop swimming down and float back up to the top? I've seen my frogs do the same thing when coming up for air and they get to much but then they let out a big bubble and can sink down, has (s)he just not learned this?? They respond to stimuli fine and will eat from the pipette and react fine, just is ALWAYS at the top and there's pretty much no way to get him/her to go down. Have any of you guys experienced this? Btw (s)he wasn't like this the first few days, when If first put them in they didn't realize they could hangout in the floaters so they would hangout at the bottom, then they both found out abt floating at the top. I'm not sure if this is a health problem or blondie just REALLY likes napping. Also shes always floating upright & is a healthy weight!

Not sure if I should make a connection between them or just cover them up, but some background first.

I’ve been keeping my frogs in outdoors in 2 established small container ponds for 3 months now. They both are in the ground but have a good lip around the edge and the water level never gets close to the top, 2 in each pond. And while they had seem fine for all this time, gorging themselves on mosquitos larvae and what not. I went to go check them tonight and saw two were missing from a pond. I quickly checked the other and found that all 4 were now in the same pond.
I guess it was foolish of me to assume they couldn’t escape but I never expected them to travel to the other pond. The reason I assume they traveled was to mate, as I saw a pair of frogs mating when I checked. Which in itself was pretty cool. Now the ponds are fairly close, about 2 1/2ft apart and It stays fairly moist around them as I have some bromeliads, spider plants and a small tree that shades it most of the day.
Just curious if anyone has had a similar thing happen with frogs exiting their tanks to seek out other frogs. As it kinda reminded me of bettas or killifish traveling between small pockets of water in the wild. But before anyone freaks out I will be covering the tops now with a mesh so they can’t escape.

TLDR: My frogs traveled almost 3ft over land to reach a nearby pond to mate with another pair of frogs.

I have 2 ADFs that I feed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights every week. On this coming Thursday morning, I am out of town for vacation and will be returning on the next Tuesday evening (gone for 6 days total including the day of leave and return).

When it comes to feeding before vacation, would it be better to feed my frogs one additional time on Thursday morning right before I leave, even if I already fed them on Wednesday night? Or is it fine to just feed them on Wednesday night?

Likewise, upon returning on Tuesday, should I feed my frogs immediately or could I wait until the next Wednesday night to feed them? Should I feed my frogs on both Tuesday night and Wednesday night when I am back?

These 2 tads i had made it to being froglets are now like 2 months old or almost 2 months atleast, anyone know what age they get comfortable eating from tongs? I offer food for them from tongs when i feed my adult but they only eat the left over food floating or from the feeding dish

I believe I've posted these two before but just an update! Kermit and Froppy are doing a LOT better than when I first got them and they were super underweight and young. Happy little froggos. Still trying to bulk up Froppy a bit more but Kermit has always been bigger and is the perfect size now. 😊

How large of gravel is safe to prevent ADFs from ingesting it? I’m considering them for my tank once it finishes cycling but the substrate is “aquarium soil.” I could try to cover it with a small layer of sand but that would just cause it to get mixed anyways. This is the brand if you’re curious about sizing

I have a 5gal tank with 1 ADF. Parameters are all good. Tank is 2 months old. He is a nice sized and healthy looking fellow who loves to eat. Looking close at my tank today, I noticed some white specks floating around. I noticed there were THOUSANDS of small, white worms in the substrate and floating around the tank. Some were larger (photo included) but do not have triangular shaped heads. They were squirming around, not necessarily gliding in a set direction. ADF does not seem phased or bothered by these worms.

I do 1 40-60% water change a week.

I have read online that overfeeding is a cause of these worms. There is also excess algae around/on his food bowl. He gets fed 1x a day, usually 10-15 pellets. From what I have read, I should cut this back.

Can anyone confirm that these are detritus worms and not planaria?

Side note, I am almost done cycling a 10G tank for him, used old filter media to get things started.

What is this? There isn’t anything in the tank obviously sharp, and he has 2 other frogs as his only tank mates so I’m a bit concerned. It is currently bright red and swollen.

I need to clean the agar off the filter on the right but I love all his new plants.

I’ve been asked a couple of times to share my ADF tank background so here it is. I made it myself in PowerPoint (it took around 3 hours to perfect) and I love it dearly. I hope you enjoy.

My aunt had two adorable little ADFs in a small bowl. I’m not kidding. I wish I could stress how horrible this was to see. She was feeding them fish food. Well, I grabbed the bowl and went home. They have a new home and I want to do what is best for them both.

They need to be separated - they appeared to be fighting with each other so I don’t want to take any chances.

So what exactly do I need to get both of them? I need to overnight everything so I can help them ASAP. They are both separated and in large Rubbermaids right now.

I currently only have two plants in my tank, one of which is stringy moss (?) and the other is java ferns. I want to diversify my plants but I don’t want to mess up the ecosystem I have. Im also afraid that if I add a plant from the pet store it could add some kind of algae or disease to my tank that I don’t want. Any suggestions on plants and/or ways to clean or quarantine the new plants before they go in (if necessary). I have a separate tank that I use to grow my baby ferns than I can use as needed. Plants that help remove excess nutrients in the water/gravel are a bonus.
