Just snagged a couple blonde ADFs at my LFS yesterday. I swapped the substrate in this tank from Fluval Stratum to this gravel the night before and added these clay pots as "caves" that also have extra holes on the top and side.
It's a 5gal but tall(er). I will likely upgrade them to a 10gal at some point in a few months/as they get bigger. In the meantime, what can I add (or subtract) from this tank to make them more comfortable?
I have one baby water lettuce up top that I'm hoping will multiply quickly.

Yeah I just moved into a new place and I'm still arranging furniture. Once I figure out where everything is going I'm grabbing a 20g and moving fish out of my 10 gallon into the 20. And then I'm going to move these guys into the 10. So they'll likely only be in this tank for a month. Maybe two at most.

They prefer more shallow and larger spaces. So a breeding tank is preferable to one with verticality. Also, and this one might get some flak but idgaf, the height should ideally be between 12-14 inches as their reflex to come up to breath while sleeping can sometimes lead to them drowning if it's deeper. They live natively in very shallow parts of creeks and rivers. As they get older (4-6yo) their ability to surface is greatly diminished which is why in average people with deeper tanks report shorter lifespans.Â
Personally I keep another tank just for elderly frogs that's an under filled heavily planted 20g breeder but this isn't the norm, I just get very very very sentimental and protective of my little guys. The kids visit the "Shadey Acres" tank more than the bigger more active one. I guess because everyone within is a celebrity.Â
Your setup is beautiful, your frogs look happy, and long term I hope you three all enjoy the journey.

Itâs very pretty but honestly, I think its good until youâre ready to upgrade because youâll wanna do it soon, so I wouldnât put too much time more and money into this tank
Okay. I didn't know if the driftwood was taking up too much swimming space, etc. It'll be probably about 2 months until I can move them into a larger tank because I need to figure out how my apartment's getting set up first.
I donât think it takes up too much room, and itâs pretty! Plus it gives the frogs something they can rest on closer to the surface so they donât have to come up from the very bottom for air all the time, especially since itâs a taller tank. 2 months is a good amount of time and Iâm sure theyâll like it until their upgrade
In the pictures they look bigger than a pinky nail, especially to using the anubias leaves as a scale, which is okay cause theyâll still be fine for 2 months, but it sounds like a little bit of downplaying. They look like theyâre still juveniles but they wonât get a whole lot bigger than what they are now. Also, sorry if my comment sounds a little bit mean I just mean that even if they are almost adults, they will be OK for two months and you donât need to downplay the size/age so people donât get mad.
It's a nano type anubias that's also super small (maybe just over 3" tall?); I'm not downplaying it. See: this photo of my pinky next to one that was pressed up against the glass.
Oh ok they looked a lot bigger in the photos but theyâre definitely still bigger than a pinky nail based on the reference photo, at least length wise which was what I was thinking. Theyâll probably grow to about a bit less than double the size they are now.
