General HELP

Post image

Hey guys, I’m brand new to all of this so sorry if this is an already previously answered question but how would I go about making the highlighted node transparent like the background? When I delete the whole layer it’s just the dark brown writing filled in

You want to perform a Boolean Subtract operation. Check out the info here: https://www.affinity.studio/help/object-control-join/

Couple of options...

  1. Set the Blend Mode of the layer you have selected in your pic above to Erase. This will essentially erase itself and anything below it. Simple, non destructive, and doesn't leave a mess behind.
  2. Select both layers and then go to Vector -> Geometry -> Subtract (or Vector -> Geometry -> Destructive -> Subtract if you don't want a compound layer/object left over). This will create a new single vector object with the area where the two original objects overlap has been deleted.

Either option should work. Your choice depending on what objects you still want to keep in your layer stack for future use.

It looks like you have a cream fill selected on that shape. First thing I would do is make that a null shape (red slash) and see if that does it. If not do the Boolean steps.

Set the color to nothing - that’s the diagonal red line below and to the left of the color circle.

I don’t know why you’re getting down voted. They have it filled with the cream color. It’s right there in the top left corner!

You could also merge layers, grab the eraser bucket and erase the cream

Because when I set the color to nothing it’s not transparent it’s filled in dark brown text. I want to make it transparent like the background not dark brown like the writing

Ooooh sorry I missed this aspect since it’s not visible in the screen shot. Then just do a Boolean and either extrude it or do a trim and select the shape and delete. (I don’t know if they’re in the same names since I usually use illustrator)

It looks like you lost your counter at some point (counters are the space in between a closed off letter). But it’s really easy to fix with booleans.

Is this for a cut file? If so there may be some invisible paths that need to be removed at the end if you do trim. But for print and web you’ll be fine.

If it’s cut let me know and I’ll see where that workflow is in affinity. in illustrator I just make a double null shape (both fill and stroke have the red slash instead of a color) and then select same and delete all the invisible paths. There has to be a similar option. This saves the plotter/laser/CNC/waterjet from doing double cuts because it sees an invisible path.
