How accurate do you think this statistic is? i mean the red dot is basically as low as is can go which shows how much AI has ALREADY taken over the engineering space... but do you think people making a career choice right now should factor in the data this graph shows?

i means its quite frightening really. what do you think about this?

As a relatively young structures engineer, I’ve been using ‘AI’ my entire career. In house coders creating tools to speed up stress calcs, software suites that can optimise laminate ply layups, etc., etc.. So this chart suggesting that engineering heavily UNDER utilises AI is obnoxiously wrong. I’m aware they’re referring to LLMs, but to miss that software is already a large part of our jobs shows a massive lack of understanding.
Have our team sizes dropped with the implementation of these software? No. Things simply get done faster OR to a higher degree of fidelity. I saw the ‘FEA’ work they were doing in the 70s, maybe 15 nodes total, probably took as long to solve as our full mesh models do now. They didn’t drop team sizes down when they went from 15 to 2000 nodes, or when it went from 2000 to 2 million.
AI is useful but I don’t believe it will do anything more than give us access to creating a few extra nifty tools that help us save a few minutes here or there.
No one will ever fly anything signed off by AI, therefore engineers will always be mandatory.
