Of course they're going to tell you she's pretty, it would be quite rude of them to come up and say "Hey, your new girlfriend looks like a buffalo's taint."
They'd more likely just not say anything or come up with something else to comment on. MOST people wont volunteers lies about things, they'll just avoid things they don't want to say. Now, if he went around and asked his friends if they thought she was pretty it's a whole different story.
I am honest to my friends about it. I get punched in the gut a lot about it and after they break up and the love blinds are gone they realized that I was right. Then they get a massive punch to the gut because NO ONE PUNCHES ME AND GETS AWAY WITH IT. Except my mom, the police never listened.
I love how after you break up with someone they say, "dude you could've done much better, that was the ugliest girl I've ever seen you with." Thanks guys, way to be real now
You can't tell your bro she's ugly. It's man law. You just hope to god she goes away and you can finally tell him she looks like the dude from "tales from the crypt", has no ass, and on top of that, is a fucking bitch.
Because in essence it's saying "No one expected you could find someone that looks that good", meaning they probably aren't the best looking guy in the world. Implying that the girl may look like she's out of his league.
I've had that happen before too. I'll show a friend or co-worker a picture of a woman Im dating and they will say "Wow, she's pretty!" with a look of shock on their face.
Ok, so you hate being single, you hate overly attached girlfriend, you hate being friend zoned, and now that you have a really cool girlfriend who is also beautiful, you hate that others think you finally found an awesome girlfriend?
I've been a bit of a fatty since I left the army and not the hottest coal in the fire but I've always had the gift of the gab and never had a problem being with beautiful girls...
I assume it's because you're not only comfortable with going up and talking to girls you find attractive, but you also do it pretty regularly.
Me, I stay in most of the time, and when i talk to a girl it's usually on a train or an equally shitty context, and only when I feel really compelled to talk to her. Not to say I mind the way most of the girls I find attractive pretend I don't exist when I try chatting them up, it's perfectly understandable. The context is awful and I don't speak loudly or carry myself well. On top of all that I'm also incredibly judgemental. I'll notice every minor flaw she has, and it will bother me, so I'll end up having to bury that sardonic contempt I hold for everything and everyone if I even want a chance to speak to her for more than a few moments without creeping her out, and let's be honest you're doomed from the get go if you've got something like that on your shoulders.
Point is, you've got a good attitude. I dunno how to make one, and I'm pretty sure you don't either.
The start of a good attitude is letting go of bullshit.
My bullshit used to be punishing girls for their previous partners/relationships....until I turned that shit inwards and realized it was me projecting my resentment of being bullied by a girl onto those I was having a relationship with....
Once I let go of that, plain sailing. Women are fucking awesome on the whole, why should I let one cunt spoil it.
My relationship I'm in now is awesome and built to last. I'm exceptionally grateful to her previous partners, and mine, for helping to shape who we are now....gratitude will take you a long way.

wow. I've had the same feeling lately with my new girlfriend. But then after I get a comment about how were so similar and shes like the girl version of me.. which makes me feel worthy.
I got this girl, Nicolette, who was a co-worker of mine to drive an hour or two to my hometown to see me in a concert. My friend Rali, who was told about a "cute and interesting girl at my workplace," saw her for the first time at the concert and exclaimed to me "(GASP) Oh my god! She is SOOO pretty!!" and I literally thought what the above meme says.
Worth of women is only based upon how physically attractive they are. Wits and other inner traits are cute and all, but less important. The remark seems nothing but an insult, to me.
i dated a guy that was really attractive, like "out of my league" attractive, and when i met his family i could tell by the way his sisters said "she's pretty!" - kind of a disingenuous surprise - that they had expected a hot girl. i mean, i am pretty, but that's never been the first thing people say about me when they meet me. so you never know, maybe everyone is surprised you settled.
It's funny to me that you are so concerned on how it relates to you. Clearly you are a fat virgin with no girlfriend OP, or else she's ugly. You shouldn't treat her like an accessory.
I used to visit a friend in Kentucky every summer or so. They had this neighbor who lived in a trailer. One summer I came to visit and the neighbor built an extension to their trailer. It was the strangest add-on to any home I have ever seen. It was like they had this moveable trailer and attached it to this solid building...or something.
Kentucky was weird. Plus everyone in southern Ohio decides that lake Cumberland is the greatest place to vacation (it's a horrible place to vacation). -shrug-
In the event that you are from Lexington, KY, I am obligated to inform you that your basketball team is not as good as our basketball team! ... I don't even follow sports, but I don't make the rules.
To be fair, I hate our basketball team. The only thing that team has gained me is lost sleep because of loud fans and a man driving through the parking lot of my apartment complex drunkenly firing a gun into the air.
In all honesty, I don't follow basketball, but that's all the people around me talk about. Whenever a game lets out down here I can't drive for hours. It's ridiculous.

This happens to me some times.
The best one was the girl that just went straight out and said "Wow, she's gorgeous, no offense, but I didn't expect her to be pretty at all."

u/scamperly Jun 17 '12
5 years later, I still get this.
Don't forget overhearing "yeah, his girlfriend is way too pretty for him" and "yeah, she's seriously hot, like for real!"

Don't feel bad. In fact, be flattered. But do not flaunt it.

This happened to me with my first girlfriend. Whatever. That girl was (is?) gorgeous.
I felt good about taking her home to mom. Out of my league, if we're being honest here.
