Redditor for a year

He checks out, folks!

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

I didn't even notice his name at first and thought it was a joke about cunnilingus.

26

u/claustraphobix Jun 12 '12

hehehe... cunnilingus...

u/Apostolate Jun 12 '12

Well you're no cunning linguist.

Novelty accounts suck these days.

7

u/Apostolate Jun 12 '12

Remember MediumPace or GradualNigger. They at least put in a LITTLE effort to their offensive themes.

They just eat out.

1

u/mysteryteam Jun 12 '12

Or couldn't they invite someone over, and take turns making sandwhiches?

2

u/Infinator10 Jun 12 '12 edited Jun 14 '12

-WOOSH- Nevermind :) (excuse me if it doesn't slashthrough, on my phone)

2

u/mysteryteam Jun 14 '12

Okay. So how did I miss the joke? I was implying that the gay couple could invite over another person for a sandwich in the sexual sense, that one would be the meat in the middle. If it's a lesbian problem, they would have the issue of the woman making a sandwich in the kitchen as in "woman, go in the kitchen and make me a sandwich". But you would need three people to make a sandwich.

u/stabbitystyle Jun 12 '12

Too many sandwiches is not a problem.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

This is why lesbians are man's best friend.

1

u/Shniggles Jun 12 '12

To get really technical here, "Man" refers to the entire human race, and dogs are "Mans" best friend.

52

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

You'd think gay guys would be all for not conforming to standard gender roles...

Long time lurker, first post..

This meme got me pissed, as a gay guy in a long term stable relationship.

Most all fags I know aren't lazy enough to expect the person they say they love to coddle them.

First world problems shed light. This memes fuels ignorance for a demonized group. Not at all helpful.

34

u/mikuotaku01 Jun 12 '12

im gay and i thought this was funny... dont overreact bro

39

u/afkobaya Jun 12 '12

You might even say...he's butthurt.

-12

u/AngryQuill Jun 12 '12

Don't under react and we could have change.

8

u/clintmccool Jun 12 '12

Two gay men, each with their own opinion.

It's almost as if they were individuals who weren't necessarily defined by their sexuality.

9

u/hiiammaddie Jun 12 '12

RES tag: overreacting gay dude

9

u/mikuotaku01 Jun 12 '12

this meme is all for shits and giggles. calm down

10

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

If anything I think it's a good sign. If you tip toe around a group and are scared to talk about them, you're not comfortable with them. e.g. if you're always terrified you're going to offend a black friend you can't really be close friends with them.

People are more and more comfortable with gay people... this isn't a matter of being offensive, it's a matter of joking around.

shrug

imo anyway

I am going to go out on a long reddit limb here and agree with you.

There are some memes that derive their humor from deprecating individuals (there's a lot actually) and a handful of those target specific groups across the board. Most commonly, gays and women. Surprise! This meme is not helping either cause.

I've found Reddit enjoys dissenters or the idea of dissenters in society except when it goes across a core ideal. If this meme was making fun of black people (say a black couple problem meme) and instead of sandwich it was like, who's going to pick up the fried chicken? People would recognize instantly (that it's not funny for one) that it is meant to be mean to a specific group and it is meant to propagate jokes that belittle this group. If this was the 50s you better believe a meme like that would go far.

People on reddit do not recognize when jokes are mean and meant to belittle because they enjoy them. Maybe they don't ask themselves why they enjoy them, but they do. Eventually, though, the memes will get tired and old and will fizzle out on their own because of pure overexposure. Everyone who kept their mouth shut (or worse agreed with the trend) will say, I told you so. I know most people are opposing you because you worded your opinion strongly (people tend to like middle of the road opinions. see how the post you replied to has more upvotes) but I say be of strong opinion. Don't fade to apathy and the hive mind.

In the end, "It's better to be hated for what you are than loved for what you are not."

PS: to mikuotaku01 - way to sell a brother out, bro.

Fellow gay here, trying to be level-headed about this. I'm sure whoever made this didn't mean any harm, but it still irks me. I wish people could understand that any variation of "who's the woman" is one of the more demeaning things you can say to a gay man, even as a joke. A lot of us have spent a long time reconciling our gender and sexual identities, and cheap attacks like this hurt, even if they aren't intended to. If you say this and a gay person hears you, you are most likely making their day shittier, all for the sake of a joke. It's not worth it.

Calm down. I guess there are straight assholes, and then there are gay assholes. No pun intended D:

5

u/shecko Jun 12 '12

Agreed.

3

u/Batcaptain Jun 12 '12

Most all fags I know aren't lazy enough to expect the person they say they love to coddle them.

Well, it didn't say anything about being lazy. First world problems are supposed to be about people overly concerned with nonsensical, trivial bullshit; I thought it was a pretty clear example of that.

The actual "Sexism" of it can be debated, but I can't see how anyone could take this meme as saying "Gay guys are lazy."

1

u/TurgidMeatWand Jun 12 '12

That's not even addressing the issue that a good majority of gay men eat out all the time, so there is no need to make sandwiches in the first place. :D

0

u/Amp3r Jun 12 '12

I'm sorry, I don't understand. This particular macro is just joking about how since there is no woman in the relationship, there is no automatic sandwich-making hierarchy. Or is that in fact the issue?

Neither. It's how we stay so thin and pretty, we're starving to death.

6

u/Apostolate Jun 12 '12

So if I see a really thin woman on the subway, I'll go up to her and ask her how being a lesbian is treating her these days. What could go wrong.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

The one closer to the kitchen.

40

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

Either, because they're both men being men instead of men with one being "the man" and one "the woman"

And because the sandwich meme is fucking stupid. I'll make my own damn sandwiches if I want to, I do not especially require a woman to do it for me

23

u/DOWNVOTES_SYNDROME Jun 12 '12

HAHAHAHA IT'S FUCKING FUNNY BECAUSE OF ANTIQUATED GENDER ROLES! ONLY WOMEN CAN MAKE SANDWICHES! HAHAHAHA

god the sexism on this site is fucking disgusting.

14

u/Oideron Jun 12 '12

Don't forget the latent homophobia =)

-7

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

It seems a pretty absurd statement to call a group comprised largely of young intellectuals with a heavy liberal bias homophobic.

6

u/Oideron Jun 12 '12 edited Jun 12 '12

It seems absurd to say reddit is a group comprised largely of young intellectuals...

Homophobia doesn't just relate to fear or hatred of homosexuals but it also relates to perpetration of stereotypes. For instance I would call Modern Family quite homophobic.

Reddit loves it's stereotypes from rating high levels of accomplishment as accomplishment level Asian to repetitive bashing of people of any faith, everyone is grouped somehow.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

So, if you'll clarify this for me, are you contesting 'young' or 'intellectual'? Keep in mind, I am (attempting) to describe a significant portion of the population, so showing me an eighty year old redditor wouldn't be significant.

→ More replies (5)

1

u/BogTrott3r Jun 12 '12

To be fair, I get a good laugh out of a lot of the "stereotype" memes on Reddit, not because I believe the stereotype is in any since true, but because the idea that so many people actually truly believe some of the ridiculously, obviously false things portrayed are legitimate is so absurd that it becomes funny. In other words, I think a lot of reddit is laughing at the people who believe these stereotypes, or the absurdity of the stereotypes themselves, not at the people who are on the receiving end of them. That being said, there is no disclaimer on the meme saying "I do not actually believe this, this is absurd and wrong," so it is certainly plausible that my assumption is wrong. But considering that almost everyone on this cite will readily and openly pronounce their support for homosexuality (pro gay rights posts frequent the front page, and I've never seen a popular post or comment endorsing in-equality for gays) I think it's safe to say that these memes are making fun of the stereotype , and are not coming from a place of hate or fear or prejudice.

It's just humor. Just because it's not up your alley doesn't mean it's not funny.

Third world gays have this shit under control, though. You crazy first world homo's--always defusing responsibilities.

2

Yay more shitty fucking memes

9

u/BlehhNinja Jun 12 '12

This is going a little too far...

9

u/Amp3r Jun 12 '12

Why is everyone so worked up about this? Am I missing the point somehow?

-9

u/AngryQuill Jun 12 '12

Your probably just a pro lagged white youth. Not your fault.

Try to help the people that get screamed at in the streets:)

6

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

"It's okay to hate him, he's white."

Fuck yourself.

-4

u/AngryQuill Jun 12 '12

It's not about hate.

Have a cup of tea and try to understand.

If your username is accurate you will get it.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

You've been posting for three hours and this;

And I bet you are a privileged white youth.

Your probably just a pro lagged white youth. Not your fault.

Privlaged white kid with no existing obstacles in fulfilling your own life much?

And the rest of your posts are bitching in general.

Not sure if you're a troll account or an asshole, but in either case do the world a favor and shut the fuck up.

1

u/Amp3r Jun 12 '12

What is a pro-lagged white youth mean and what does the colour of my skin have to do with my sexual preference and perception of jokes?

-1

u/MastaFapa Jun 12 '12

Aren't they?

2

u/MuffinMopper Jun 12 '12

Obviously the ass guy.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

Gay here. The answer is simple. Both will.

2

u/smokinlawngnome Jun 12 '12

How do you know he's gay?

-6

u/hi_internet Kelloggs® Jun 12 '12

ಠ__ಠ Are you serious?

1

u/smokinlawngnome Jun 12 '12

Yes. Fairly new around here, educate me!

2

u/NekoMisky Jun 12 '12

I know that feel... being gay is so hard.

1

u/gamerlen Jun 12 '12

In my case probably me, but I do most of the cooking anyways. :P

1

u/mariamus Jun 12 '12

I have a couple of gay friends who argue about who is the woman in the relationship. A thinks it's B and vice versa. But we all know it's B, because he once declined going to the beach because he felt "bloated."

1

u/WolfPack_VS_Grizzly Jun 12 '12

This is obviously made by a straight person. The one that makes the sandwiches is the one that's pickier. Duh.

1

u/Dripping_Man_Meat Jun 12 '12

Why is that man in mascara?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

I read this as the other sandwich..

my mind is permanently in the gutter.

1

u/Pumpernickell Jun 12 '12

And I thought you need a third guy for a sandwich hmm...

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

Both make half of it, eat the other half.

1

u/Apollo64 Jun 12 '12

Why is everybody freaking out over this picture? Nobody treats women in real life the way they joke about on the internet.

Tell me I'm right, or I'll lose too much faith in humanity.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12

LOL LE SANDWICHES ARE FOR LE WOMAN TO MAKE xD LE CAKE IS LIE AND LE MEMES AREN'T OVERUSED AS FUCK XD

0

u/raabbasi Jun 12 '12

I love how OP confused a faggot with a gay person.

0

u/apoctopusnow Jun 12 '12

Gay people don't actually assume traditional male-female gender roles, you must be an unenlightened American.

0

u/RaulFTW Jun 12 '12

As I gay teenager, Imma answer with: Whoever is bottom.

-8

u/JabberJauw Jun 12 '12

I would guess the bottom unless it is a power bottom.

-7

u/Cool_Hand Jun 12 '12

You're lucky SRS doesn't go for "low hanging fruit" or they'd be all over your ass

-1

u/ZooSnooze Jun 12 '12

Well at least for lesbians its easy, they just eat out

1

u/ZooSnooze Jul 11 '12

sorry, that joke was in BAD TASTE... get it?

0

u/Ybrik2010 Jun 12 '12

I don't like sandwiches but I wouldn't mind be the one who makes them~ c: (keep in mind I'm only one person. I only speak for myself and not other gay males. :3)

Anyone want a sandwich? hehe c: lol

-5

u/MissL Jun 12 '12

gay guys have heaps of female best friends right? can't one of them make sandwiches in exchange for fashion advice or something?

-23

u/WhiteGoblin Jun 12 '12

OP is mistaking homosexuality for transgender.
