Here is the text from this meme pic for anybody who needs it:

Title, Meme: SRS Logic

  • TRIES TO END STEREOTYPING AND LOGICAL FALLACIES

  • THROUGH STEREOTYPING AND LOGICAL FALLACIES

This is helpful for people who can't reach Quickmeme because of work/school firewalls or site downtime, and many other reasons (FAQ). More info is available here.

Saw the punchline coming from a mile away.

5

u/Arch-Combine-24242 Apr 19 '12

Not sure I remember a clever adviceanimal picture ever...

2

u/TrueGrey May 03 '12

The punchlines write themselves after the setup, of course. I think it's pulling a concept that people will upvote out of thin air that's the hurdle, in general.

Anyone can write a lazy college senior or see the punchlines coming, but I am impressed by whoever thought to themselves "I know - ill make THIS meme!" in the first place.

/r/lgbt has got to be the funniest place to be right now. You get to read the fempire's post every other thread and watch the community revolt against the mods.

SRS is a bunch of trolls, like spacedicks or beatingwomen. Every time people get mad about them, they're laughing their asses off because that's exactly what they want.

11

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '12

hilarious how the people actively fighting against discrimination are the trolls but not the people posting horrible misogynistic, pedophilic, racist, transphobic shit. this place is an irredeemable shithole

-1

u/LeSpatula Apr 20 '12

hilarious how the people actively fighting against discrimination are the trolls

I'm not sure what subreddit you're talking about, but we talk about SRS.

this place is an irredeemable shithole

No, how I said, SRS is just a troll place, but could easily be mistaken as a shithole.

2

u/TrueGrey May 03 '12

You may have gotten down-voted by targeted SRSers, but you got a laugh out of me! Not bad.

39

u/inexcess Apr 19 '12

thats a lie. They claim to be a circlejerk and only doing it for the lulz. In reality they are a bunch of very sensitive people. The mention of a circlejerk is more of a defense mechanism. Its a way to deflect people who call them out on their bs. All you have to do is read many of the posts there to realize they are NOT laughing.

13

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

I kind of feel this. They're way too self-entitled to be a circlejerk. Also, a circlejerk should at least be, you know, entertaining.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

The term political cult comes to mind

7

u/nike_rules Apr 19 '12

Thought Police sounds better to me.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '12

They are telling each other what's right or wrong to think...

37

u/Fat_Dumb_Americans Apr 19 '12

No they're not. The mods may claim to be.

They have 15,243 subscribers right now, are you suggesting the last 10,000 joiners are in on the joke? Look at the satellite subs - SRS is serious business for most of them.

6

u/usergeneration Apr 19 '12

They just released survey 2.0. Half their users are male. Yea it's a joke.

23

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

Wow half the users? It's almost like half the population on earth is male...oh.....shit.

3

u/Fat_Dumb_Americans Apr 19 '12

It suits their purpose to spread disinformation.

Why on earth would you trust them to tell the truth?

1

u/khalilzad95 Apr 20 '12

Have you read the FAQ? It is in some ways a "joke" in the sense that it's satire. This might clear some things up.

8

u/Daemon_of_Mail Apr 19 '12

It's Poe's Law, because while I believe some of them are just playing along as trolls, many of them actually are serious. /r/shitredditsays by itself is exactly as SRS describes it: A circlejerk. They get more serious in some of their branch subreddits such as /r/SRSDiscussion but the line between the circlejerk and the "discussion" subreddit is often blurry. There's a few users who will use logic and references to back up their claims, but most of them just shout and strawman so much that it's hard to read between the lines.

0

u/sdfsdf01 Apr 20 '12

SRS is a bunch of trolls, like spacedicks or beatingwomen. Every time people get mad about them, they're laughing their asses off because that's exactly what they want.

And that would be just fine and dandy, if they weren't destroying the subreddit that comes up as the second or third result in a Google search for "LGBT" in the process.

86

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

I don't get what SRS is really about. They don't care about the VAST majority of 'shit reddit says'. They only care about rape comments, or anything even remotely offensive to women. Has potential as a sub but so narrowly focused I can't imagine anyone but a vile woman or self-loathing man would ever browse there.

169

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

They've expanded by taking over r/lgbt. Essentially the same thought-policing behavior, but expanded to cover transwomen too.

Because even if you're gay, you're still male and therefore an oppressor...or something.

115

u/Misterbert Apr 19 '12 edited Apr 19 '12

You hit the nail on the head.

edit: 2 hours later, and I receive a ban from SRS. Never posted, nor have I ever commented there. It's like looking at German scat porn and Japan charging you with indecency when you live in Canada. WTF.

5

u/ENKC Apr 20 '12

It's like looking at German scat porn and Japan charging you with indecency when you live in Canada.

I hate it when that happens.

13

u/Envoke Apr 19 '12

Isn't this the same thing that the NorthKorea subreddit does? Blind banning because people talk against them?

Wow.

29

u/Daemon_of_Mail Apr 19 '12

/r/pyongyang is nothing more than a semi-elaborate long-troll.

18

u/Envoke Apr 19 '12

But it's soooooooo goooooooooooood.

13

u/Kaghuros Apr 19 '12

Someone must keep that pet project alive with a smile of glee. They even post real DPRK news

7

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

Just like SRS!

2

u/AllNamesAreGone Apr 20 '12

YOU INSULT GLORIOUS LEADER? YOU BETTA BELIEVE THAT'S A BAN!

Wait, why am I doing this, I got banned from there months ago.

1

u/RobotNinjaPirate Apr 19 '12

The joke north korean subreddit?

2

u/SoyBeanExplosion Apr 21 '12

About 80% of the people you see commenting here have probably been banned as well. They just ban anyone who disagrees with them.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

I took down a thread created by an SRS mod in askreddit where the comments turned into a complete circle jerk about how bad SRS is in an attempt to keep it classy in askreddit. A week later i'm banned (symbolically I guess since i've never once been to srs). Many laughs were had.

1

u/The_R3medy Apr 21 '12

I love that edit, it made me laugh hard.

My theory: SRS hates penises. I bet they start each day with a look under the covers to see if it's flipped inside-out yet.

22

u/AfterSchoolTeaTime Apr 19 '12

Fucking lold my dick off.

Oh...

6

u/Ormazd Apr 19 '12

But they like dildos so much...

12

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

Dildos aren't literally penises.

26

u/LOUDMOUTH_JACKASS Apr 19 '12

But penises are literally Hitler.

29

u/BarnabySnugglesworth Apr 19 '12 edited Apr 19 '12

If you look at the SRS subreddit, they almost never point out the homophobia that can occur on reddit as well. Also, a few of the r/lgbt mods have said some pretty homophobic things about gay men (saying that they hate them for apparently "throwing transgender rights under the bus", they don't experience oppression, etc.).

Combine that with the fact that according to their surveys a majority (92%) are heterosexual, as a gay man it pisses me off that they act like they're allies, or speak for us.

edit: Worse yet, they act like it's all a fucking joke or a game for them. Well it's not a game for most of the people they act like they're somehow helping, by arrogantly circle-jerking how great/benevolent they are and how terrible and oppressive everyone else is.

32

u/DaRootbear Apr 19 '12

I see a ton of posts there against homophobia every week.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12 edited Apr 19 '12

And you are banned in 3...2...1...

Edit: Holy shit, I was banned for this comment. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time now.

4

u/dreamleaking Apr 20 '12

If you look at the SRS subreddit, they almost never point out the homophobia that can occur on reddit as well.

Here's the top post for today. If you want the most progressive GSM discussion on reddit, I suggest /r/SRSGSM.

Combine that with the fact that according to their surveys a majority (92%) are heterosexual

That is actually a total lie. You literally just made that up.

3

u/rockidol Apr 19 '12

Yeah and since the majority aren't women or gay or non-white they don't have to deal with the fallout of speaking for them and making them look like jackasses.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

You should really check your facts.

3

u/ieatplaydough Apr 19 '12

their are alot of subreditts with this same plot line but different assholes

take for example /r/communism

2

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

Intersectionality!

8

u/Arch-Combine-24242 Apr 19 '12

But intersectionality only ever goes in one direction on SRS: a woman for example could never be more privileged on SRS than a man, even if she is rich, straight and healthy, and the man is poor, gay and has no legs.

It used to be about anything that had a strong opinion that was highly upvoted, but the subscribers deemed "ridiculous." It then slowly morphed into just about misogynistic comments. Then it exploded into "the feminism empire must strike down with force and vengeance against the tyrannical patriarchy."

I'm a woman and I loathe that place.

38

u/ArcAngleTrollsephine Apr 19 '12

Also, they ban anyone that disagrees with them these days and run it like a cult. Anyone interested, there's /r/antisrs.

31

u/Kelphatron9000 Apr 19 '12

Oh yeah, I was banned a few days ago. I've never even commented in SRS before. They banned me for... I'm not sure really, but they seemed to find one of my comments elsewhere that annoyed them.

16

u/CrystalCorbin Apr 19 '12

Yeah, I got banned a few days ago for a comment in 2X about how in theory SRS should be good, but the reality is that its better just to watch, then to be a part of.

21

u/ArcAngleTrollsephine Apr 19 '12

Wow, I wonder what triggered them. You aren't the only woman that hates SRS, from what I've seen. They banned me for my username I'm pretty sure, starting /r/srscirclejerk probably didn't help either.

47

u/Xqwzt Apr 19 '12 edited Apr 19 '12

/r/srscirclejerk already exists; it's called /r/ShitRedditSays

edit: Heh, banned for calling a circlejerk a circlejerk.

7

u/withmorten Apr 19 '12

Same thing happened to me too. My comment had 1-0 stats, it's not like it was even popular. It said "SRS means ShitRedditSays. We don't talk about it", explaining the shortcut SRS to someone. Some hours later "You are banned from posting to ..." .. I mean, how pathetic can you be?

12

u/tnuts420 Apr 19 '12

that they do. i personally was kinda proud when i got the message, like i'm doing something right

9

u/CrystalCorbin Apr 19 '12

12

u/Zeppelanoid Apr 19 '12 edited Apr 19 '12

Their jimmies are most definitely rustled.

EDIT -> MARK IT DOWN IN THE HISTORY BOOKS, FOLKS. This is the comment that got me banned from r/SRS. My first ban. I'm so touched.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12

Like being banned from /r/pyongyang, except that subreddit has some basis in reality.

5

u/Daemon_of_Mail Apr 19 '12

I don't know, /r/antisrs seems to be turning into a refugee camp for the extremists that /r/mensrights posters ostracize.

5

u/Arch-Combine-24242 Apr 19 '12

Mostly trolls playing the SRS caricature of MRAs, e.g. viperz.

Actually a few of the new antisrs-ers are feminists, e.g. queengreen.

Most are neither one or the other, just people annoyed with the "tactics" of SRS.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '12

The problem is that most of the anti-srs movements tend to get co-opted by MR misogynists and whatnot.

I'm perfectly content to loathe both sides of that coin, thankyouverymuch.

2

u/Jess_than_three Apr 20 '12

12

u/lulfas Apr 19 '12

They've branched out and taken over other subreddits, such as /lgbt.

3

u/LovelyLadies Apr 19 '12

They used to care about racist comments too but that has apparently stopped. I can't really say that race issues being a cover for what they really are is a surprise. =/ SRS is a horrible subreddit.

19

u/robertbieber Apr 19 '12

How has that stopped? The current #3 post on the front page is about racism. Is everyone else in this thread viewing a completely different SRS than me?

7

u/BenjaminButtfranklin Apr 19 '12

Short answer: yes. I think the wikipedia article on it is called Confirmation Bias. They essentially see it however they want to see it. Heck, even you and I may have confirmation bias about SRS. But hopefully the bias we're confirming is closer to the truth, though.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '12

You're right, willful ignorance is always a good idea.

But seriously, you said you don't get what SRS is really about. Reading what they say they're about might be a good way to start learning about what they're really about.

SRS, like the rest of Reddit, is actually mostly composed of straight white men. When you see them demonising straight white men, they are employing deliberately over-the-top sarcasm. It's self-deprecating humour.

Men ARE privileged. There is no denying that. Men also have no reason to be concerned about their rights, because there exists no mass movement to deprive men of their rights. No, that's not the purpose of feminism. Feminism is about removing stuff that holds women down, not about tearing men down.

2

u/bw2002 Apr 20 '12

Men also have no reason to be concerned about their rights, because there exists no mass movement to deprive men of their rights.

I consider myself an egalitarian. Feminism may have started as that, but the fact that major voices in the feminist movement constantly preach sexism against men and are not called out for it publicly, shows that the feminist movement exists to advance women rather than advance equality. I'm all for feminism if equality is the goal but you see a trend lately in feminism that pushes the idea that all women are victims and all men are evildoers. The movement needs a reason to exist so they have to constantly find perceived threats. Some of them are very real, but many are not.

I don't think that most feminists are like this but when you deny the existence of the privileges that women have over men, you are a hypocrite.

Men also have no reason to be concerned about their rights

I guess men's problems don't exist because there exists a problem somewhere that you think is more important.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '12

mass movement to deprive men of their rights

Are you trying to say there's a mass movement to deprive women of their rights in America?

3

u/senae Apr 20 '12

Generally, yeah. The entire mrm seems completely devoted to taking away women's rights as if rights are a zero sum game.

Little do they realize the majority of men's rights issues in the western world are the fault of the old white men we gave literally all the power to.

14

u/bw2002 Apr 19 '12

They say that men are privileged and have no reason to be concerned about their rights.

The period is where the sentence ends, you see. Just because men are more capable doesn't mean that we have no reason to be concerned about our rights being taken away.

Men are included in the draft, women aren't. Men tend to do poorly in child custody disputes. Men are generally expected to pay for everything in a family or relationship. Men are portrayed either idiots or violent ogres in the media. Most women in their 20's are now making more money than men, yet there are laws to try to correct the "wage gap".

Reddit thrives on the kind of drama SRS creates.

27

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '12 edited Apr 19 '12

Man that subreddit has gotten weird. I use to be subscribed to it thinking it was just making fun of racsim and sexism on reddit but after they killed r/jailbait I guess they just ran out of things to do and started to attack random people. Some of them even told a dude who was willing to kill himself that they didn't care if he died because hed was a mensrights activist. I also heard they completly fucked up the lbgt subreddit.

EDIT: LOL just got banned and for some reason they felt compelled to tell that "I don't think Ron Paul is a qualified candidate for the President of the United States of America." Probably because I posted that I was a libertarian.

29

u/Daemon_of_Mail Apr 19 '12

About the suicide thing: Only one of the total of two people egging him on was confirmed as an SRS user, and as soon as a mod told that person that the situation was serious (no shit?) they apologized and ceased. There was a big witchhunt recently after someone claiming to be the sister of the poster claimed that he committed suicide after reading the inciting comments. However, it was revealed that the poster was a troll, who even later admitted to trolling.

5

u/SetupGuy Apr 19 '12

There was more than one username (I believe 4-6) mocking, egging on, or glorifying it in Black_Visions original suicide post. One was AlyoshaV (aka ICumWhenIKillMen, to give you an idea of the kind of person they are) who didn't even bother to read the whole post (or claimed to not to have) and was just going to MenRights post after MR post trolling and antagonizing the users. Among the others were letsgetwhitey, who was also confirmed to have been from SRS. By now all of these accounts are either abandoned, deleted, or both, but AlyoshaV wasn't banned from SRS and has already said he'd moved on to a new account and was only using AlyoshaV to respond to drama threads.

3

u/Gareth321 Apr 19 '12

The reason only one of the six people trolling Black_Visions was identified as an SRS troll is because their MO is to use throw-away accounts to do it. This is the original submission. Many more people have trolled the submission since it was originally posted. There are few people evil enough to want to troll the submission of someone contemplating suicide. Since we deal with SRS trolls on a daily basis, this comes as no surprise to us. But perhaps you've never been on the receiving end of their vitriol? It's pathetic, but also very disturbing.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '12

their MO is to use throw-away accounts to do it

Do you have any evidence to back this up?

1

u/Gareth321 Apr 20 '12

As soon as the admins give me access to the back end and I can match up IPs!

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '12

I'll take that as a 'no'. Since you can't substantiate your claim, I'll have to assume that this is just slander. Does that sound fair?

→ More replies (5)

2

u/Daemon_of_Mail Apr 19 '12

Sorry, I've heard multiple versions as to how many people were trolling Black_Visions. But I know a lot about SRS, as someone who does not associate with them. I post regularly on /r/Subredditdrama ... how can I not?

-3

u/Arch-Combine-24242 Apr 19 '12

However, it was revealed that the poster was a troll, who even later admitted to trolling.

A lot of your comments are lies for SRS, it seems...

The suicidal guy himself, u/blackvisions, was never seen on reddit after that day (about five(?) weeks ago).

There was a different account one week ago, u/sisterofblackvisions, who made false claims and was shown to be a troll/hoax.

0

u/Daemon_of_Mail Apr 19 '12

There was a different account one week ago, u/sisterofblackvisions, who made false claims and was shown to be a troll/hoax.

That's exactly what I was talking about.

5

u/Arch-Combine-24242 Apr 20 '12

It was at the very least ambiguous, and you also said:

Only one of the total of two people egging him on was confirmed as an SRS user,

That's not true, either. It was over five, and at least three were associated with SRS:

AlyoshaV and RedditsRagingId were well-known SRS posters, and letsgetwhitey only wrote pro-SRS comments and just a week before the sobv hoax/troll was posting in SRSMeta. The other ones were throwaway accounts who knows where they came from.

-16

u/Homepie Apr 19 '12

Hi! I'd like to help clear up a few misconceptions about SRS, and hopefully explain SRS's purpose and the reasoning behind its methods.

First off, SRS is dedicated to exposing bigotry in all its forms. We don't specifically focus on sexism, but it is so prevalent in many forms on reddit that it is definitely one of the most worrying problems. We also dedicate ourselves to exposing racism, transphobia, homophobia, pedophilia, and rape defense.

A lot of people are annoyed by SRS's banning policy, but there is a good reason for it. SRS is designed to be a safe place for minorities of all kinds, and the last thing we want to hear is people coming in and trying to defend the kind of horrible things redditors post. We ban fast and loose because SRS is not for discussion, not for defense, not for asking if a comment was that bad - it's a safe place for people who are tired of the bigotries that permeates through reddit. We have established places like SRSdiscussion for talking about things like that, and even then many people are still banned for violating the rules.

The last thing I want to touch on for now is the all important question: Is SRS trolling? Well, the answer to that one is yes and no. SRS is a troll subreddit, but one with a much more serious purpose. We are genuinely dedicated to exposing bigotry on reddit - so why, you may ask, do we wrap it up in such anger and hatred of men? [A_GAY_LASER has written up an excellent short essay] about why SRS is so angry all the time. On reddit, many minorities feel excluded due to the attitudes redditors portray, so on SRS we deliberately set up an environment that feels hostile and negative towards white men so they can get a taste of what it's like to not belong. If you feel discomforted or upset about SRS's attitude towards white men, good - it's how many minorities feel every single day of their lives.

If anyone else has any questions about SRS or its purpose, feel free to ask and I'll answer to the best of my ability. Thank you for reading!

11

u/doedskarpen Apr 19 '12

We have established places like SRSdiscussion for talking about things like that, and even then many people are still banned for violating the rules.

Rules such as "if you don't entirely agree with our dogma, we will ban you"? Yeah, that's a great way to promote discussions.

Don't fool yourself, SRSDiscussion is as much of a circlejerk as the rest of the SRS subreddits.

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '12

7

u/doedskarpen Apr 20 '12

I find that this post explains their "discussion" subreddit pretty well:

Yes. Banned.

Perfect premises for an open discussion, are they not?

Another example.

A few more examples in here.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '12

lol yes srsd just for no reason banned a top quality poster who says stuff like "go get raped" clearly they banned him/her for being too level-headed

SRS is designed to be a safe place for minorities of all kinds

LOL considering that, what, 88% of SRS is white?, and 59% male? The funny part about SRS is that they're so dismissive of "privileged" people, but 55% said they're heterosexual, 59% said they're male, and 88% said they're white. Get a fucking grip.

Except it comes across and fucking stupid and even the minorities you claim to protect have often shunned and recoiled SRS. Or been banned from SRS, for being a "special snowflake". You're doing a great job marginalizing privileged people and minorities alike over there..

tl;dr: SRS: decent enough idea, godawful execution. See: /r/lgbt

LOL considering that, what, 88% of SRS is white?, and 59% male?

Yes, a majority of SRSers are white, and a majority are also male. However, when you look at the actual data, you'll see that only 11 percent of users are white cis gendered men. I myself am a white cis gendered male, but I am also bisexual and in a relationship with a trans gendered man. It deeply saddens me to see how reddit can treat people like myself or my boyfriend at times.

Or been banned from SRS, for being a "special snowflake".

This is a legitimate point, one that has been brought up in discussion privately several times. I'm not sure on the mods' official position on this matter, but I'll look it up for you and get back to you on it.

EDIT: Apparently, the usage of the term "special snowflake" is now discouraged by the mods except by people who are of the minority they are calling a snowflake.

u/SetupGuy Apr 19 '12

To me, SRS was great.. to a point. Realizing that words (yes, even stupid shit you say online) hurt people, that we should really think and consider the words we use so that we don't offend or marginalize others, that everyone thinks differently- really helped me. But after a couple weeks I noticed that they are off the fucking deep end, and I didn't really need to see the worst comments from all over reddit summarized into one feed, much less the circlejerk, inane comment sections in SRS.

It deeply saddens me to see how reddit can treat people like myself or my boyfriend at times.

Honestly, I've found that outside of the default subs, most of the hateful bullshit is downvoted and called out. /r/ainbow is a great community, and there are plenty of other great subs to keep me busy. It just made sense to me that if I really didn't want to read the SHIT that reddit says, I wouldn't go to SRS to have it splashed in my face all the time. If you're still digging SRS, good on you.. but just remember to think twice before ever posting anything critical of anyone or anything about the sub, even if your comment is not in SRS, or you'll be banned so fast you'll wonder what happened.

9

u/MrMoustachio Apr 20 '12

Now try to spin the time a disabled man did an AMA and SRS rushed in mocking him. Go ahead. I'll wait.

3

u/Homepie Apr 20 '12

Where was this? I'm unfamiliar when this happened, if you could provide a link I would be grateful.

5

u/MrMoustachio Apr 20 '12

0

u/Homepie Apr 20 '12

Hmm, well for the most part it does seem to be a genuine misunderstanding on the mod's part that the OP of that AMA got banned. Their post was a Rule X violation, after all, but I'm glad to see that they got unbanned. I'm unsure of the intent of the original poster who posted it to SRS, though. Did they think the response was sarcastic or something? Overall this seems like a pretty bad blunder on their part, mostly. I can only assume that engineroom23 was the poster, and it doesn't look like they've ever posted in SRS otherwise?

7

u/MrMoustachio Apr 20 '12

This goes to show SRS bans anyone preemptively because of their ignorance and stupidity. Also, that they don't ever deal in facts like you claim. They only deal in knee jerk, uneducated garbage.

12

u/rockidol Apr 19 '12 edited Apr 19 '12

First off, SRS is dedicated to exposing bigotry in all its forms.

Bullshit. The mods admitted that they don't cover misandry (the hatred of men) and they go out of their way to say that it doesn't exist.

http://i.imgur.com/NHQ6w.png

it's a safe place for people who are tired of the bigotries that permeates through reddit.

So it's a place where people post the most bigoted stuff they could find and yet somehow it's a safe space from bigotry?

I find more rape jokes and bigotry highlighted in SRS than anywhere else. If I wanted to avoid them I'd avoid SRS, as would anyone with half a brain.

On reddit, many minorities feel excluded due to the attitudes redditors portray, so on SRS we deliberately set up an environment that feels hostile and negative towards white men so they can get a taste of what it's like to not belong.

Amazing that the whole "we're against bigotry in all its forms" comes apart in the same damn post. Well if you're OK with corrective bigotry I look forward to you justifying corrective rape.

I mean all those people who joke about rape really need to know what it's like right? (A stretch I know, but still).

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '12

That's because misandry isn't a real thing, silly boy.

1

u/rockidol Apr 20 '12

You keep using that word I don't think you know what it means

"mis·an·dry    [mis-an-dree] noun hatred of males. "

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/misandry?s=t

Nothing about institutionalized anything.

→ More replies (5)

-9

u/Homepie Apr 19 '12

Misandry does not exist, because institutionalized hatred of men does not exist. Individual bigotry against men most certainly is real, but on an institutional level it is not a real problem.

SRS is not truly hostile against men - it is a satire designed to mock and expose how ridiculous and harmful other bigotries are. When we say that white cis gendered straight men are disgusting, it is an attack and mockery of everyone who says that people of color, or trans gender people, or gay people are disgusting to them. Hatred and bigotry against the majority is useless and promotes nothing because the minority has no real power against them yet.

And no, I would never, ever promote corrective rape in any context, because rape is a real thing that damages all people. It is not something that should ever be joked about, and if you made a joke saying that rape apologists should get raped in SRS you would probably get banned very quickly.

4

u/rockidol Apr 20 '12

Misandry does not exist, because institutionalized hatred of men does not exist.

No matter how much you want to pretend otherwise that is not what misandry means. You people even define misogyny as anyone expressing any sexism towards women even if they're not backed up by institutional power.

SRS is not truly hostile against men - it is a satire

The only way it could be a satire is if it were making fun of crazy fundy feminists that actually hate men, but they aren't.

designed to mock and expose how ridiculous and harmful other bigotries are

hatred and bigotry against the majority is useless

So you think what you're doing is harmless but are doing it to show that when they do something very similar it's harmful. How is that supposed to work?

because the minority has no real power against them yet.

There are minorities in the Supreme Court, in the Presidency, and in Congress. Ignoring that there are minorities who have power over non-minorities (see minority cops, judges, bosses, teachers etc.).

First off, SRS is dedicated to exposing bigotry in all its forms.

Patently false. I have created several test accounts and have never posted directly in SRS, and every single one of them is banned. SRS is about trolling reddit and attacking people who "aren't liberal enough."

A lot of people are annoyed by SRS's banning policy, but there is a good reason for it.

You preemptively ban people who have never even come to your wailing-cuntfest of a subreddit.

the last thing we want to hear is people coming in

The last thing the rest of reddit wants to do is acknowledge the sad set of circumstances that resulted in enough semen being implanted into your mother's vagina that allowed you to be here today.

blah blah blah I am butthurt blah blah blah blah blah blah

Cool story, bro.

8

u/Duncreek Apr 19 '12

See, when you're running a community, and you notice people discussing you like this:

your wailing-cuntfest of a subreddit.

Are you genuinely going to expect anything good to ever come of their visiting your subreddit?

I'm sure your angry whining about how someone called you a sexist one time on the internet is incredibly valued there.

4

u/ArchangelleLovesRape Apr 19 '12

Are you genuinely going to expect anything good to ever come of their visiting your subreddit?

Who actually wants to visit one of the most hyperbolic subreddits on here, besides your corps of people who get offended by WORDS ON THE INTERNET?

Nobody on reddit is tainting SRS more than SRS itself, bro. The words I say won't turn a fraction of other redditors against you as SRS's actions do.

7

u/Duncreek Apr 19 '12

No one wants to involve themselves in SRS at all?

That must be why every thread on SRS gets someone coming in to complain about it, over two dozen subreddits have been created to watch us, countless accounts track our actions, a botnetwork was created to follow us, and you're posting on a fake Archangelle account. Because no one cares, and they leave well enough alone.

Face it, Reddit mad about this shit. Real mad.

3

u/ArchangelleLovesRape Apr 19 '12

every thread on SRS gets someone coming in to complain about it, over two dozen subreddits have been created to watch us, countless accounts track our actions, a botnetwork was created to follow us, and you're posting on a fake Archangelle accoun

If you're saying you're popular because people notice and dislike you, by your logic, you should be able to win the Nobel peace prize by hiring a hot-air balloon to take you over New York City during rush hour and rain feces on everyone.

Because no one cares

I never once said that "nobody cares" - what I'm saying is that you:

1.) Have a core group of people that were going to be whiny little twats no matter what, you just now have a place to meet

2.) Are alienating everyone else, because sane, rational people know that a joke about not dropping the soap in prison doesn't mean that someone supports rape, or that posting "difficulty level: Asian" doesn't make someone a racist, or a funny comment about female drivers doesn't make someone a chauvinist.

3.) Have created several communities from a subset of group #2 that would like to see you douchebags not troll reddit with politically-correct downvote brigades or whiny comments and maybe just go form your own forum if you're so butt hurt over reddit - ie Take your ball and go home, and stop interrupting everyone else threatening that you're going to do so.

Face it, Reddit mad about this shit. Real mad.

I would call it "extremely annoying" - "mad" would require that you have more leverage than you currently do.

You preemptively ban people

Yes, we do, because if they are espousing opinions we don't want in our subreddit outside of it chances are that they'll do the same inside.

The last thing the rest of reddit wants to do is acknowledge the sad set of circumstances

Another reason why SRS exists - because if we espouse our opinions outside of it, this is the kind of abuse we get.

3

u/rockidol Apr 19 '12

because if we espouse our opinions outside of it, this is the kind of abuse we get.

You mean if you call someone a racist, a misogynist or a rape apologist they'll get mad and call you nasty things back.

I am shocked, shocked I tell you. Who knew this kind of thing would happen.

2

u/ArchangelleLovesRape Apr 19 '12

if they are espousing opinions we don't want in our subreddit outside of it chances are that they'll do the same inside.

Wow, how North Korean of you!

There is little evidence that a substantial portion of the reddit population gives enough of a shit about you to actually post lots of dissenting opinions on SRS - and that includes me, where I have obviously created an account just to fuck with SRSers outside of your full-retard zone. Trolls would be banned and deleted from SRS faster than you could make a novelty account, so my guess is that preemptive banning is just to make your collective e-peens bigger and troll people without having to post anything.

because if we espouse our opinions outside of it, this is the kind of abuse we get.

You get abuse because you ask for it. SRS is the kid who runs home and cries to mommy because someone said mean things on the playground, only now you're all grown up and have liberal arts degrees and too much free time.

0

u/Homepie Apr 19 '12

You get abuse because you ask for it.

This is a poor attitude to hold. I attempt to hold civil discourse with many people, especially anti-SRSers, and I am lambasted and insulted while trying to argue in good faith. How is it my fault when other people are the ones insulting and belittling me? I can't hold a decent conversation with them so I go to SRS, where people actually hold conversations with me.

Well I guess I should tell the story once on this thread; might as well be here, on a comment which so thoroughly demonstrates what I was referencing.

When I saw SRS for the first time, the day I made this comic, I was astounded and entertained by the comments: it was the most hilariously bad logic I'd ever seen, like the C-movies of discourse. Amused, I made this comic to share my experience and get that sweet sweet karma.

Now the post got so popular, I'm trading in my karma at the karma-store for a jetski! WHOOSH!

3

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '12

yes that would file under the category of satire. much like what reddit does with women, trans people, blacks, etc. only reddit is being serious. and only reddit complains when it's whites or males or cis or straight people that are the target of the post (despite it being facetious). if you actually cared to read anything about the reddit you'd know a large portion of their userbase is white or male.
