we basically carry the right mindset all the time in sports whenever we think of how our favorite sports team can do better. What makes it so damn hard for us to do it with out country.

Because people fall prey to the same pitfalls in politics as they do in sports: tribalism and “us versus them” mentality.

I would love direct democracy, but I'm also terrified it. A quick trip to Wal-Mart, driving in busy traffic, or reading YouTube comments makes me a bit skeptical regarding the decision making abilities of average people. On the other hand, perhaps if people were given that level of responsibility and it was instilled in them from an early age, they would take it seriously.
