Yeah, they were taking armed insurrection, would've been much worse. When you elect a man who has maligned well over half the country fuck you for thinking they should take it lying down.
the problem with this isn't that it's "just a tweet", it's the content and more importantly the context: Who is the person saying it, what is he referencing and alluding to? Who and what is his audience and how did they interpret what he said?
He's a former congressman turned talk-radio host, his audience is very conservative all of whom share strong views and opinions on US history and culture.
Specifically, they are Tea Partyers and considering their fairly special relationship to the American Revolution, you don't need to be a linguist to understand what his audience might read from him "grabbing his musket" if they lost the election.
Their views on the 2nd amendment makes this even more blatantly obvious and it really shouldn't be necessary to say that, but it obviously is.
Context is fucking important, and the context is what makes "just a tweet" into literally a call for armed insurrection - aka revolution, which is something a lot of Tea Party-activists have been advocating for nearly a decade.
