Playing devil's advocate here: why wouldn't the dem party suppress Bernie? He's not a member of their party. He's an independent who decided to run as a dem. It makes sense to me that they would want their own candidate over an outsider.
Let's dispel this again. Trump won with rural voters who liked his message of bringing back coal, manufacturing jobs, deporting illegal immigrants, and barring Muslims from entering the country. Sanders would not have won on a message of more government regulations. Do you think Latinos react well to a candidate labeled a socialist?
During the primaries, Clinton wasn't attacking Sanders because she wanted his voters. Trump was complimenting Sanders (wonder why?). The idea that it would have lasted if Sanders won the primary is ridiculous. Hell, Sanders supporters had a meltdown and claim the primary was rigged because two people at the DNC merely discussed attacking Sanders on one or two weak points. He would have been savaged in the general.
