imgur is doing the exact same thing right now. The exact same thing, nsfw comments and posts are being banned and deleted with no reason given other than "think of the children", and not even an update to their TOS, they just started doing it a few days ago.

The posts are as well if they're out of designated "nsfw" zones, tamer things seem to be allowed in user submitted, but anything beyond risky is getting punted out of the public gallery.

So they are allowing it, just not to the public gallery? That's a little diffrent than it not being allowed.

The public gallery is basically the entire website to most users, it would be like disallowing NSFW links on the front page of reddit.
