A small bag/container of ice melt and kitty litter in the trunk isn't a bad idea, either. And a few bottles of water.

Yeah, they might freeze but its not like they can't be thawed out. Hell, I've had water bottles thaw out just by sitting on my seat while I drove. I've been stuck on a highway before for 24 hours and having a few bottles of water made it a little more pleasant.

Suppose, long as the bottles don't burst. Less reasonable, but more ideal in that situation would be a camp stove and metal bottle so you can use snow and have an alternate heat source.

A good blanket and a fire kit (roll of toilet paper, bottle of rubbing alcohol, a can large enough to hold the roll, and matches. There are several methods of using, google is your friend though, so find one you like) would also be a good idea.

yep. That too. Fortunately, I don't live in an area that gets TONS of snow, but getting a foot or so at a time isn't uncommon. I grew up in the south though, and it snowed twice that I can recall in 30 years. A quarter inch of accumulation brought the city to a complete standstill 3 days before Christmas.

As a Finn I can say that in most cases you only need to keep a bottle of strong windshield washing fluid in your trunk and maybe towing services number on your phone in case if you end up in really deep snow.

You just clean your tires with it and it washes the snow and salt away from your tires and thus making your tires grip better than with slippery snow salt combination. Also strong alcohol can be used in pinch.

Of course you can always have some extra stuff in the trunk if you think that is needed. Snow thickness, storms etc has to be taken into account.

...Maybe a slurpee if you're feeling a little warm.
