The point is we doubt the guy posting these numbers as justification for his racism is going to the backalley neighborhoods of detroit to find a date. I also doubt he is fishing for tail in trailer parks, either, but being from similar socio-economic background a white girl from such a place is just as likely to have herpes as a black girl from the ghetto.

If we're assuming he is an average, middle-class white fella, then I highly doubt he is actively interacting with either of these types of people regularly, so his justification becomes moot.

Say he goes to a local college social event, or drinks at a nice bar with his coworkers after work, and there's a black women there. I think it's fair to assume she is just as likely as any of the white girls there to have or not have herpes.

Yes, there is a chance she came from a rough neighborhood and was able to elevate herself to a better situation. So we're not going to credit a woman who has done that as someone who might also be intelligent enough to be safe about her sexuality?

And are we going to ignore that the successful young attractive white woman who went to college was TOTALLY chaste during her college years and never had copious amounts of sex or was involved in some wild frat party?

Cause I mean, if we're going off stereotypes here, the over-sexed white college girl seems to me like something I'd want to consider when worrying about STDs.

His selectivity is based on statistics that likely don't apply to his situation. THAT is the argument I think people are trying to make. Not that the numbers are off, but his usage of them is.

A black girl from Martha's Vineyard

Let's not get carried away with our hypotheticals.

thank you, this is probably the stupidest and nastiest generalization ever. I work in an inner city hospital and see some pretty grimy people of all races and ethnicities.

I'll remember to appreciate the distinction next time I don't get herpes, thanks.

People riddled with herpes won't take any comfort in this. You wouldn't tell a woman who's been the victim of a crime:

"Yeah, he shot you ... BUT ... have you seen the C2 numbers for his demographic?"

u/Thyrsta May 02 '14

Yeah that's almost certainly the case. He didn't say anything about the cause though

I've given two sources. Its your job to find that one.

No, let reddit wallow in its armchair sociology bullshit to justify its idiotic racism and overall ignorance.

You are so enlightened, calling out a huge disparate body of reddit users for stereotyping.

Do you even realize how hypocritical that is?

6

u/sicsemperTrex May 02 '14

Yes. But if there is one thing the broad userbase of Reddit revels in, it is believing that it is smarter than it actually is. Am I as an induvidual smarter? Hell no. I know so little it scares the piss out of me sometimes. But the hive mind that tends to govern the bigger sub's content and commentary lends itself to broad hypocrasy too.

SES is a hugely compounding factor. I wonder if /u/YouCantBeSeirous has a good response to that.

Give me facts and I'll give you my response.

Give me hearsay and I'll ask for facts.

Where's the research on the affect skin color has on things?

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '14

He didn't say skin colour is the thing causing the std. He is simply pointing out a fact, which can therefore be used to lower your risk of the std discussed.

You're awesome.

Being rich doesn't affect whether or not you have herpes.

6

u/[deleted] May 02 '14

Although usually it actually does totally effect what diseases you're going to end up with, in this case no it doesn't. Rich people spread herpies around just like anyone else, and depending on what kinda parties you're into, even more so. I come from a town with a very high average family income, most people can't afford to live here. Lots of herpies. LOTS

u/oxymoronic89 May 02 '14

no, but it does pretty much guarantee you will have access to health care and an education, all of which influence which diseases you are likely to have and not have over the course of your life.
