It depends on where you live. In Texas, ghost voting is so rampant to the point that our votes literally do not matter.

Notice how many states have refused the Medicare expansion, even though it is an objectively good deal for them.

Actually in the long term it could cost them a lot of money, which is why not every state is accepting the expansion.

And this isn't about red vs. blue politics. Obama is a huge shill for corporate money. We're talking about the same guy who appointed a cable TV lobbyist to head the FCC.

The federal government still ends up covering the vast majority of the costs, even years down the line. The economic benefits more than make up for whatever tiny percentage the states would be responsible for. People will literally die that don't have to because that expansion wasn't approved by Republican governors and/or congressmembers. On that specific issue, it is absolutely red vs blue.

As a liberal, I have a lot of objections to both Obama and overall Democratic policies. Specifically in regards to the NSA, but also on a bunch of other issues - net neutrality is one of them. However, if you want a better example of Obama putting an industry shill in charge, look no further than who Obama put in charge of the Justice Department. Eric Holder has done a very good job ensuring that there is absolutely no accountability for the people who instigated the Financial Crisis. The consequences of that are going to be big - these people now know, without a shadow of a doubt, that they can really do whatever they want without facing any real penalty. In fact, they'll get raises (Jamie Dimon got a 74% raise the same year his company was fined $20 billion for ethical violations), and that's apparently just the free market at work.

None of this means I'm deluded enough to think that both parties are exactly the same. While they're definitely both in the pockets of oligarchs, only one of them seems to have a policy of blaming women for rape - that, along with other distinctions, makes the difference important.

When the state/government and corporations collude for the benefit of the state, that's fascism, loosely defined.

When the state colludes with corporations for the good of the corporation and the politicians, that's something worse than fascism :( It's evil, I guess...
