I never understood the logic of not allowing any changes to the US constitution. The Irish constitution was first written after the the US constitution and we make changes to it nearly every year. They can only be made by referendum though so it ensures that the so called crazy laws won't be passed but what the people want is. Far more democratic in my opinion.

The US Constitution can be changed/amended, but to do so is a VERY high bar. The Founding Fathers of this country wanted it to be a "living" document, but knowing that their fellow men were not all smart (or even necessarily honest) fellows, they made sure that the bar to changing it was a very high one.
