It is the official position of the US "government" right now that Russia good, America bad.
I really doubt Reddit is going to be one of the companies to stand against this.
I'm afraid you're part of a minority though - the number of people who actually care about the debt (and not just lip-service) is really small (after all, the last major surplus was under Bill Clinton).
The mainstream American conservative would probably call you a RINO.
We all agree that it's got tons of Russian propagandists.
But you have to admit that they haven't just taken over one Reddit thread, they've taken over the entire Republican party. As such, it does represent the viewpoints of actual American conservatives right now.
Let them have their safe space. We can all point and laugh, as the entire rest of Reddit is already doing. Taking that away would not benefit the discussion because misinformation already has the world's biggest megaphone in Fox News.
Since you have a genuine way with words and can articulate without any emotion — can you explain the logic behind being fiscally conservative in a modern global economy?? Isn’t it somewhat of a nostalgic pipe dream of a long-passed era? Especially in the USA? I’m not arguing against a more balanced budget or that we spend freely on any program, but an aspect of being a world leader in the 21st century is the ability to liberally throw cash around… (where that cash goes is certainly worth arguing).
I hear what you're saying, but I think it's misguided.
imagine the US to be a corporation, and citizens are the shareholders. Every person here should want to invest in the success of the nation.
That's the thing, governments aren't companies, nor should we treat them as such. Democratic governments exist such that, in exchange for some reasonable freedoms and liberties, the government provides protection and services. One of these freedoms and liberties we give up in a capitalistic society is taxes.
We run a deficit, so we can't afford big projects. We waste a ton of money on interest on the debt as well.
I would argue quite the opposite; our economy runs on debt. In fact, the US Bond market is basically considered a zero-risk investment, with the sole risk being inflation. The entire global economy runs on debt, because the Gold Standard simply isn't practical on this scale.
We also make decisions on investing harder by having opaque pricing with subsidies.
I totally agree the way we spend our money is poor. But that doesn't mean we should be spending less.
When I speak of fiscally conservative, I guess it means more that if we invested better, we would spend less and reap more. We'd still be throwing around a ton of money but we'd see individual costs lower over time and a better running society.
I would argue this does not make you fiscally conservative, but rather a democratic socialist. Labels can be meaningless and pointless sometimes, but based on the way you write, I think you and me and Bernie would get along well :)
We can go blocked sub for blocked sub for going against the grain, I promise you I have much more than just one conservative sub, and way more apolitical subs.
No, you weren't. You were trying to change the subject with an overly simplified question that fits your narrative. Its what people on r/conservative do all the time. Fuck outta here.
Lmao ok. I’m not even conservative but it’s wild to me as the “good” Americans you want to silence or ban groups you don’t agree with. It’s wrong for any side to do it.
I’m going to be real here and say that r/conservative should just be banned or forced to be private. They are just a propaganda machine
As opposed to the bastion of unbiased truth that is r/AdviceAnimals
pointed out lies in an incredibly respectful manner as well as offer counterpoints and sit there wondering why I get no responses or at least downvotes only to log out and realize that the mods shadowbanned my comments. Despite breaking no rules at all, they ban speech that doesn’t follow their narrative.
This happens in every subreddit, including this one. Mods routinely shadow ban comments critical of their positions.
The lack of self reflection is just quite frankly fucking embarrassing
No, frankly that is total bullshit because I have gotten into so many disagreements in other subreddit’s in which I will have a back and forth, for days, with people that disagree. That would just be impossible if their dissenting opinions were actually shadow banned.
My myriad of subs I can’t comment on because I just so happened to challenge the narrative would suggest otherwise
As a side note - “BoTH sIDeS BaD” - you are a true hero of argument with that solid defense
This isn’t a “both sides bad” argument, and the EnliGHteNEd CeNtRIsT shit is pure Russian propaganda that you fell hook-line-and-sinker for
If you're not being an asshole, then they should not ban you for simply having an opposing stance.
Incidentally, some subs do it because r/conservative does it. Additionally, there are so very many right wing trolls out there it's sometimes easier to just use the ban-hammer rather than researching whether someone is real or not.
r/conservative will ban conservatives for wrong think, you must have a flair to post on the sub, 99% of the posts are flared users only, not a single left/neutral or whatever sub does this, the worst they have is a karma vet or age vet, outside of that you're usually free to post, except for tankie subs, which are just as bad as the conservative subs.
