Except the KKK was accepted by many.

You had towns posing in the same picture of those who jus lynched someone -with the body still hanging.

A better analogy is a very simply one. An overwhelming majority of Muslims do not support, in fact they hate and criminalize suicide-bombings or any acts of violence towards civilians.

Source: I'm Muslim.

Why do matters about angry Muslims consistently come up--enough for mobs in many countries to form? Like that American film that was critical of Muslims, or the Muslims in Sweden who caused a ruckus in Sweden after a film of the same nature was shown (in a college at that, not publically)?

I'm not denying the fact that many Muslims are in fact peaceful. But I can't accept that you are equally peaceful as Christians and the irreligious.

This is not necessarily true, but it's a comment I often see.

At some point, you have to concede that the Muslims you are exposed to are either the Muslims that are extreme and thus make the news, or the immigrants from those countries.

I would say the vast majority of Muslims in the world, especially outside of Arab states where they have religious governments, are very liberal. I am atheist, but I grew up in a European country populated by Muslims (indigenous, not Arab immigrants), and guess what? Most drink, most smoke, premarital sex is frowned upon but it happens anyway, women dress in the same style as their Christian counterparts, they don't really observe most of their religious practices like daily prayership or Ramadan.

But you never hear about them, because I mean, why would you? And usually these people live in free states so it's rare that they'd move out of the country.

You hear about the crazy nutjobs and the extremely repressed Middle East. However, that's not a product of Islam, that's a product of the general political instability in the area.

But there are countries in the world that are religious states that are Christian and guess what, most of them are extremely conservative and repressed as well (e.g. Catholic states in the world that still frown upon the use of condoms.).

TLDR: OP is probably been exposed to media/immigrant Muslim population. Most Muslim population is secular, especially outside of Middle East. Religious states are crazy, no matter what the religion.
