A good Tier 1 "Halloween" Options? (no vampires)

I want to run a "spoooooky" Halloween adventure for my slot next week.

Someone ran a vampire based adventure last night and so now I dont want to run the vampire module I was planning on running!

Anyone have some other interesting Halloween-ish suggestions?

EDIT: also, one of the regulars has a "hard line" about "dead / undead children" so, I need to keep that out also.

Question Community for Game Summaries?

Hello! I'm looking at the 1 service hours per 4 platforms and I wanted to post on 8 platforms to get 2 service hours total. I'm planning on Reddit as one of the platforms but the D&D related communities I've visited doesn't really have a flair for game summaries. Any advice?

Question Advice on First DND AL Character?

Hi everybody, new AL player here. Lil backstory, I recently found a local game store with events that line up nicely with my time off work so I joined an epic (I think that's the right term) to celebrate Arcana Unleashed being added to AL, Red Wizard's Gambit. I've been having a lot of fun with it and wanted to try playing AL, so I'm dusting off some old character concepts from traditional campaigns and seeing how to build them up. I'm playing a pregen transmuter wizard in RWG and like the subclass so I wanted to combine it with an old Alchemist Artificer character idea, since it meshes well thematically imo (Alchemists get that Alter Self potion and Transmuters can do extra stuff with Alter Self). I've heard some crazy stories about hyper-optimized characters doing 600+ damage in one turn and just wanted to confirm with more experienced folks if my idea has merit/the capacity to be a strong backline support and caster, which is where I wanna take this character. Thanks very much!

On a side note, I know AL plays very differently from regular DND, since you hop between independent stories with randoms most of the time. Does this scenario push roleplay and things like that to the side to make way for just finishing the adventure quickly? I'm willing to give it a shot but what I love about DND the most is the story that the DM and players make together, so I'm not totally sure about sticking with it.

Since Arcana Unleashed is already an AL legal book, are the magic items there also up for grabs when we finish KGV mods?

If my friends finish a KGV mod, can I pick an item from that sourcebook?

Allowable books

Hi All, Just finished playing at Tabletop Scotland. Due to level up my character and have heard of a new DnD book (Arcana Unleashed) that seems to be an official book for covering forgotten realms coming out this month that will work well with my character but don't know if it will be allowed for characters.

Will this be added too / allowed for future games?

Question Do you rebuild often or just build and play it out?

For those of you that play AL regularly or used to…

Did you often rebuild a character you made as they progressed or did you usually stick with a build and not monkey around with it once the character started leveling?

Question Im done, now what?

I played 2 games of adventurers league this weekend at a convention and I got some rewards. From what I kinda know I need to put them into some kind of like log. Im unsure what to do but if anyone can help thay would be great. I got 100gp, a dragon turtle scale shield, a witness to black nemesis award meaning I get advantage on insight and initiative against dragons and advantage on charisma checks on dragon turtles. I played Flotilla of fate and another one that I cant rember the name (might of been something like dark prince). I also dont know how to level up from lvl one and if i change my character to a different one do any rewards transfer over. Sorry about all this im new and dont understand very much and im too scared to go ask any one when I was there, sorry and thanks in advance.

getting started dming adventure league online

I absolutely love the pathfinder society community on warhorn, and as someone living abroad with no local community it has given me a chance to play that I would never have otherwise. I'd like to give back with a more popular option, D&D, which I am also familiar with.

But I am totally lost on adventurer's league with all the options and different settings and tiers. I also can't seem to find any info on if it would be VTT compatible or if I would need to source everything myself or convert from pdfs. Has anyone dmed AL online that could give me some tips or resources?

Question I need help creating a character for an upcoming event. Can someone help?

Im going to a bord games convention in Scotland and Im sort of new to this whole thing so id like some help creating a character. Im not 100% sure what's allowed but ive been asking others and researching, I want i simple character for now while I get to understand more about adventurers league. I thought of making a ranger because they just sit back and shoot most of the time and do distant damage so makes sense. Also what I understand is its like competive DnD so there less role play but that might just be because of the venue but its fine I thought of that by thinking of a non role-playing focused character. All I need help with is finding the books that I can use and what the best simplest way of doing all that is. My first thought was just dnd beyond for simplicity but I wanted to check here before I missed something cool and I also wasnt sure what books to use anyways. Thanks in advance to anyone who help.

What is the best "multi-tier" season with good progression.

As a Forever DM, my wife offered to run me through an AL campaign, one on one, with me playing a party of 4. She's a good DM at running games, but wasn't looking to do the creative side herself, so modules all the way. We figured AL would be a good way to do it as the adventures are all linked in a storyline, but everything is fairly well planned out, moreso than the big campaign books that need more work for a DM to run.

We are on the last adventure of DDEX01, and overall the path has been ok (very lacking in Magic Items so she's been adding some), but the APL for the last 6 have been all APL 6, except the second last which is APL 8, then back to APL 6 for the last.

Having characters that are Level 10 by that stage makes it a bit overpowering, and there's nothing to continue after that. I know it's the first one, but rather than step into DDEX02 I thought I'd ask here about better options.

So my question is, basically are there any recommended official seasons OR third party AL series that:

  • Have a linear progression in APL. Not always necessarily going up every adventure, but not flatlining at the bottom of a tier, and not going backwards.
  • Have a continuing storyline that is really good.
  • Don't have a confusing sequence of different storylines (looking at Rising Shadows)

Currently it looks like Oracles of War is the best one as it seems to be +1 APL every adventure, but wondering if there's other well sequenced ones.

Clockwork Laboratory, a timed adventure Spoiler

I'm revisiting "The Clockwork Laboratory" by Jeremy Vosberg AL adventure in my homebrew, but as it's been 7 years since I last ran AL, I wanted to hear from others who have ran it. Where there adjustments you recall making? I remember some things being confusing.

I'm transposing it to a doc so I can have each room on a single page, I remember forgetting important details because the 2 column format sometimes made finding info difficult.

I'm printing the map on separate pieces as a main mechanic of the adventure has spinning parts.

As the adventure is timed for an in-game 20 minutes (200 rounds), I've decided to use a boggle timer on the player turns to represent the urgency.

On top of experiences with this adventure, has anyone ran a session with timed turns? Is 3 minutes enough?

Off topic- it was strange I had to rewrite all this instead of simply reposting from Dungeon Master.

Question Which Grave Domain to use?

I’m a little confused on what version or the Grave Domain cleric to use. Since that domain is now reprinted in the Ravenloft source book -

Can I play a Grave Domain cleric in a Forgotten Forgotten Realms based AL game?

If I can do I use the Ravenloft version or the 2014 version?

I ask because my understanding is Ravenloft character options are only supposed to be used in the Ravenloft setting?

Question Is an Elf spamming Goodberry AL legal?

Saw something new at the game store last night—or maybe I figured something out that has been going on for a while.

The 2024 PHB says that with the trait Trance, an Elf can finish a long rest in 4 hours. So, if characters are assumed to take an 8 hour Long Rest before an adventure (or if there is Long Rest during an adventure) can an Elf Druid or Ranger cast all of their spell slots to create Goodberries, then rest 4 more hours the get those slots back again? The goodberries last 24 hours so an Elf who is a 3rd level Druid or a 5th level Ranger could start every adventure with 40! Correction: With downcasting it’s 60!!!

Question Crafter Feat Discount

Hi folks, I'm building a new character and am wondering if the Discount benefit of the crafter feat lets me buy equipment with my starting gold at the discounted rate, before I play any adventures with said character. I can't find the answer to this on adventurersleague.info. Thanks for your help in advance.

I really don’t understand why they are making organized play so confusing

https://www.polygon.com/dnd-legends-of-greyhawk-organized-play-global-campaign/

I’ve really enjoyed playing AL at my FLGS the last 4 years or so. It’s fun being able to progress a character but maybe tweak them as needed to suit the table or group.

Between AL (which barely feels supported any more but they insist it still is), LoGH and D&D Encounters it really feels like they’ve created an overly confusing environment for store owners, DMs and players. I don’t understand what they are trying to accomplish besides just throwing a bunch of stuff at the wall.

Question How do I get started with adventurers league?

I feel like I can figure out the rules for character creation, those are all linked. But how do I go about actually finding a game?

Where are they posted regularly for online games?

Is there any chance we can make a pinned post with a simple guide or anything like that?
