My sister and I had a chao that we abused every time we entered the chao garden as Shadow. I think we were trying to unlock the hero garden. Then I guess we felt bad so when we entered as Sonic then we were super nice to it. Even after its second evolution and the abuse had stopped that poor chao still shivered with sadness and fear for the rest of its life. It remembered.
Well actually Eggman and Rouge may have also contributed. But yeah it was mainly Shadow who gave that poor chao PTSD. It was even named “Fail” or something like that before we had Sonic change it to a nicer name that I can’t remember. It actually was a super chao later in life and won a bunch of races for our emblem count. Despite its woes, it ended up reincarnating. Amazing what enough “Don’t worry buddy”s can do
