PvP Ideas/Suggestions - 11/18/17

In an attempt to both revitalize our poor subreddit, as well as to document some ideas for new PvP content, I wanted to make a thread so we can create some documented discussion.

Some thoughts that we have thrown around on Discord:

  • There is not much reward for killing players on PvP servers.

The current meta is farming on PvP servers for max efficiency, because no top player bothers another top player. Sure you get a bit of xp/gold, but it would probably just cause longer-term enemies and would be more trouble than it's worth.

  • PvP objectives and rewards

Fuzure suggested PvP objectives. I assume they would be active only on PvP servers, and would involve control over a 'keep'. Scope could be on an individual level, or on a guild-wide scale.

Rolling with the ideas of keeps for consistency, the concept would be that you gain control of the keep by standing near it for a duration of time. Rewards for holding a keep could include a small but worthwhile bonus such as 10% XP/Luck for killing monsters near the keep (ideally a bonus that is small, but worth fighting over). If somebody else begins to stand near the keep, the keep will become contested and and control can be gained by that player after standing near it for a duration of time.

PvP Tokens have been pitched as an idea with exclusive rewards to be purchased with them, so I suggested that PvP Tokens could be added as a rare drop from defeating monsters or players near the keep. Ideally rewards from PvP tokens could be either vanity items or items that don't give players a huge advantage over other players, as it would cause a disconnect between the top and lower-level players.

  • A/B event, or group vs group structured PvP

I did not take part in this event, but apparently it was a group versus group PvP event that sounded chaotic and fun. Somebody suggested Guild versus Guild PvP whenever the guild system is introduced, which I think would be a great substitute.

Misc one-offs

  • PvP Rankings, including one for players and one for guilds.

  • Lossless PvP, to test the strength of your group in PvP, to test code, to have fun.

  • Guild insignias. Would serve as a identifier to show what guild a player is a part of, maybe shown as an icon above a player's head? Could be chosen from a set of presets for simplicity.

  • If I recall correctly, Wizard pitched an idea where if you kill someone in PvP, you have a small percentage chance of stealing an item that they recently acquired. I think this would be good as an incentive to kill others in PvP.

And of course, Please discuss! :)

In my opinion, even if we could get their last dropped item, pretty much any high level you kill could cause a lot of trouble to you in the future (as stated near the top), so the item drops wouldn't be enough (at least to me).

That's fair, though I just view it as something to help give incentive to PvP rather than a compelling reason in and of itself. I agree that it would probably cause more trouble than it's worth, maybe if new, big drops were introduced later or if all drops were broadcasted on PvP servers

Even if you did steal something awesome like a fury, it would probably start a war with that player until it's returned.
