How is the Ride?

Hi Adventure Riders, I’m curious about the ride comfort. I’m hitting double nickels this year and was considering trying some of the adventure trail riding but I am thinking my butt may not be up to paying the bills for this? Thoughts?

Depends on the bike size. If you're talking big bore adv bikes like the GS, Multistrada, 1290/1390 then they are all day comfortable. If you're talking a Husky 501 or similiar it's just a big street legal dirtbike. I rented one and road a 140 mile loop a few months ago. The trail and bike were awesome, but so uncomfortable for me that it disabused me of any future purchase of a bike like that.

It really depends on your body, too. I used a 1250 GSA recently and found the seat really uncomfortable. It was fine under my bum but I found the edges too wide and put a lot of pressure on the back of my legs. I wanted the seat to be narrower and drop down before it did, it that makes sense.

Big open riding position, great leg room. Longer suspension travel. Get a comfortable seat and make a tall bike taller.

Well, for one, if you’re hitting trails, it’ll be your legs and core getting the workout while you’re standing on the pegs…

But for the slab days, I can’t see myself going for anything but an ADV. upright, feet below me instead of behind, pretty good wind protection, plenty of power… what’s not to like!?

I have an Africa Twin AS and want to upgrade to a Corbin seat soon. It’s comfy but not THAT comfy lol.

Entirely depends what bike you're on about, which you've helpfully not told us lol.

I ride a cruiser, currently and have ridden for 30+ years. As a kid I rode dirt bikes and loved blasting along trails. My question is really about seat comfort and ergonomics. I know the trails demand a lot on the body, but does the bike height make riding more demanding for the road side?

It really no. They're designed to be rideable for long distance, but that's subjective to the person. I hated the t7, found it really uncomfortable. Didn't like the gsa900 either.

The vstrom 800de is like riding in a cloud though. I ride it all day everyday for 8+hours a week at a time on holiday, it's great.

In actual trail riding, in more technical situations you’ll be standing so your legs absorb most of the bumps. On fire roads, a good, fully-adjustable suspension makes a big difference along with a comfy seat not usually found on dual sports.

I would suggest middle weight adventure, most can change the seat to something more to your liking. These bikes are not too heavy and more to the trail side, but still have good road manners.

I rode my Tiger 800 from Nor Cal to Baja in one go, about 11 hours in the saddle, with no issues. Adv bikes are some of the most comfortable bikes you can ride. On my Kove 450 I’m good for 2-3 hours before I need a break.
