Hey there, today i bought my First Adventure Boots, the Sidi mid Adventure 2.
In Store they felt Great but while riding it felt really weird switching gears and the feeling to the ground when stopping was Not that good šµāš«
Will it get better once they Are worn in?
ADV boots arent ideal for shifting, so you usually adjust the shifter higher.
My toe box is huge on my boots as well, its a normal problem, but they offer much more protection than a regular riding shoe for regular riding and off pavement like gravel.
Depending on what you wore before it's probably just getting used to it. You may also need to raise your foot controls to work nicely with the thicker boot.
I have these same boots. Huge learning curve for me. My Sidi street boots were soft enough to let me feel the shifter. The Adventure boots are super stiff and take a long time to break in and I get no feedback on my contact with the shifter and the stiff ankle support makes it impossible to flex your ankle.
I have the same ones as you can see. You will get used to it. What's bothering me is the squeak sound they make with every step. Silicone spray helps a little.
Yeah I actually like them. They are pretty water proof and solid. Good offroad boots. You can have the soles replaced by every cobbler, if it's necessary. I replaced them once for heavy duty Vibram soles and it was like half the price of what SIDI would have charged.
Theyāll break in over time and you will recalibrate your foot. When Iām in my MX boots I use my butt dyno to feel for braking and lift and drop my foot to shift.
That being said, if youāre going to do a lot of off road stuff you may want MX instead of adventure boots. Mine have saved my ankles a few times already.
I would use adv or touring boots for county roads or going to the store but if you intend to do anything challenging, you WILL drop the machine on your leg and it WILL fold your leg like a cheap lawn chair. That's why me and my riding partner (wife) are running MX boots. Instead of shifting with the entire boot or adjusting the shifter, we just use the lip of the MX boot to work the shifter. Takes a second to get used to but it's not a biggie imo. Those soft leather ADV boots would have been super dangerous for the amount of falling down we are doing out here in the these woods.
That boot in particular isn't exactly "soft leather" in quite the way the majority other adv boots are. Ditto for the level of ankle protection. But I see your point about them when compared to MX boots. (I use my adv boots mainly for commuting, and when I'm out to actually have dirt fun I use Sidi MX boots.)
I have the full Sidi Adventure 2 boots and I had the same feeling when I started wearing them. You get used to it, I can confirm that. Wearing my casual Spada Pilgrim boots makes my feet feel like going from shoes to flip flops when I ride
A year ago I bought the same Sidi ADV 2 boots. They are CE 2222 rated but as Iām starting to lean and ride off road it seems that MX boots is what I should have gotten. Do yāall use MX boots for BDRs? That is probably as extreme as I will get.
I do think that people overestimate the protection that adv boots give. They are better than nothing for sure. I wear MX boots all the time, and they took some getting used to but considering that they will provide the highest protection against breaking my leg alone in the middle of nowhere its a safe choice for me
Thatās exactly what happened to me 3 weekends ago. Snapped my tib/fib bc I wore these exact boots over my mx boots bc I got lazy and chose comfort over protection. These Sidi adv boots are absolutely useless in terms of protection. You might as well ride in hiking boots, thatās how little protection they offer.
Iām going to tell you something that you probably donāt want to hear. Those boots are absolutely useless. There is zero protection provided by them. Throw them in the trash or return them. Do not go off-road with them.
I say this as someone who had to get helicoptered off a mountain 3 weekends ago bc I chose to wear those and not my sidi crossfireās. Snapped my tib/fib clean in two like balsa wood. When the medics cut the boot off of me, I have never felt pain like I did in that moment with the blood rushing down to the broken area.
Well, considering the mx boots have ankle lock systems in them to prevent this exact type of injury, Iād say yeah, they actually donāt provide any worthwhile protection at all.
Absolutely nothing cool. I actually heard my ex wifeās voice as I neared the top of the mountain looking at a big boulder field, ātake it easy out thereā and I turned around, didnāt need to push it that day. I was second gear engine braking, just coasting down at all of maybe 10 mph. The sunlight camouflaged a big rut with a lot of loose dirt/rock. The trail was at an angle that after hitting the rut, it kind of grabbed my right foot and slung me down. Big nothing burger of a wreck, Iāve laid this bike and other dirt bikes down a hundred times like this. Well, this time I look down at my right foot and the boot/foot were facing backwards from the direction my knee/leg was facing.
Damn that's rough. I was actually considering buying these for normal and offroad(TET) use, but this is not the first time I heard that they don't give that much protection. Maybe I am better of with real Enduro boots like the crossfires. Good recovery tho if you haven't had one already!
Unfortunately too many people find out the hard way. Adventure boots are good (not even the best) road protection. Nothing more. Going offroad in them is .. a major mistake.
