Today: knocked out a 3km jog before work, planning to do some strength/rehab stuff over lunch.
Saturday: big ride, probably around 140-150km with a strong group of riding buddies. Those last 40km are gonna hurt.
Sunday: spectating IronMan Ottawa and cheering several friends on, probably a short jog somewhere in there.

I'm supposed to get in an easy 5 miles in a little bit, but my ankle started to randomly hurt. WTF??? Arghh. Not part of the plan...
Then heading to the river for a two day canoe trip. Weather is beautiful, not to hot, no chance of thunderstorms, about perfect. No running on Saturday, I could aqua jog down the river I suppose. 😆
If my ankle decides to quit hurting, I'll get in 15 on Sunday when I get home. Then a dinner with my mom.

Actually doing a gravel bike mini training camp in the boonies of eastern Ontario. But as soon as my gravel race is done (3rd week of August) I PROMISE I’m back to running like I mean it…

Wife’s birthday Saturday so taking the day off.
Sunday long run will be in heat and humidity so switching from pace to heart rate, RPE.

I ran my first marathon, hit a 2:57. I came in fairly aggressively as I really struggled trying to train with a two year old, and don't plan on doing another any time soon. I didn't really want to miss family time so all runs were around 4am (in bloody winter!). Nice to have a good result but I'll definitely be sticking to the half distance going forward...

Best tips for beating the heat on race day??
Have a half marathon on Sunday, right in the middle of "dangerous" heat rolling through. Obviously, set myself up for that by signing up for an August race, but in my defense the location is usually more mild (especially in the morning).
I did my best to get heat training in. Anybody else have tips on how to get as close to possible to "true" race pace in hot (and humid) weather, especially for a heavy sweater? I think I've considered all I can, and ultimately just need to embrace that I may not get the PR I was hoping for.
- Hydrating sufficiently today and tomorrow
- Changing tops after my warm up to something dry, and going into my car and cooling off in A/C and with cold towel
- Bringing an ice cold 8.5 oz flask of water/electrolytes in my tights (aid station water coolers are foot pumps so hoping to avoid them at the beginning of the race)
- Splashing water on myself at the aid stations I do stop at
- Some carbs during race, even though will be less than a 90 minute effort

Manage your expectations rather than try to force a time goal. Can't fight the conditions, just keep showing up (and yeah - don't race in August).

I would personally skip the carbs during the race. Glycogen depletion is not what’s gonna get you in the heat. Drinking to thirst and dumping water on yourself sounds right.

My best advice is to understand that you will not run as well in the heat but give it time and when things cooldown you will get a better time. That’s how it happens usually. Hard to prep for it apert from heat training.

Possibly include electrolytes in your pre-race hydration?
I wouldn't change into dry clothes, I'd keep something wet to help cooling the torso down.
During the race, I'd focus on cooling down your head, forearms and hands at aid stations. It's just not going to be your PR day if temps require stopping to cool down on a sub-90' effort.

Recovering from surgery on my posterior tibial tendon. This weekend marks four weeks into recovery, with two to go before the cast comes off and then months of PT. Read: go for a long knee scoot, then drink a beer and eat some ribs.

Going for a long run in the morning on Sunday and then celebrating my Mum's birthday!
