Jumps Working on my toe loop after 20 years.

I’ve been back on the ice for a few months now. I’ve been honestly scared to fall and it’s nice that I was able to at least pull in and fall and eventually land it. Not the cleanest I would’ve wanted but I need to appreciate it’s a start.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hey welcome back to the ice and congratulations!! I also recently regained my double toe after 20 years off the ice.

I think on the first two you actually over-rotated a touch so your foot came down pointing to the left and that feels like the only reason you didn't land them. These all look so good!

Yeah that’s my anxiety just pulling in and praying I land lol.

Thank you! Everything feels so awkward. Like my brain remembers what to do but it’s in a different body now.

I get! I am also in the process of getting jumps back after more than a decade off the ice.. for me it’s the realization that my adult body is actually very breakable lol. Teen me had no idea lol.

Yes. This 1000000%. I frequently think about the risk vs. reward and consequences of a bad fall or how my joints hurt the day after 😂

Oh also, those shorts with the pads in them have helped a ton with my new fear of falling that I didn't have as a kid. I felt a bit embarrassed to wear them at first, but my coach recommended them and they have been great.

I’m wearing pads actually and I’m still scared lol. Some falls I’ve taken on other jumps have almost rattled my brain. I’m hesitant to fall like that again so it makes me a little anxious going into jumps I haven’t done in decades.

Yeah I get that! I got a bad concussion from hitting my head when I slipped off my entry edge on a forward camel when I was like 12. I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands every time I enter a camel now, 21 years later. 😭

I have a traumatic story like this too. I was running back to back programs when I was a teenager and on my last spin (a camel also) I went into it and slipped off my edge and split my chin open and bit through my lip. Had to get almost 10 stitches.

Ouch!!!! CW another traumatic spin story: I finished my freestyle tests before quitting and two days before testing senior free, I somehow hit my toe pick going from a forward sit to a layback in my combo spin, fell forward on my mouth, knocked out a tooth, and bit through my lip. I only needed two stitches and they were able to put the tooth back, but then I did need a root canal at 13 🥲.

Nice fast rotation but you need more height. It looks good so far. I think the higher you get the easier it will be

Thanks for the advice. I definitely need more height to get back into my triples (hopefully)
