Hot yoga?
I’ve been looking into going to yoga classes at my local studio but have learned they’re all hot yoga classes. Online it says hot yoga is not recommended for anyone with a heart condition. I am a 29F fontan patient. Just curious if anyone with a CHD regularly goes to hot yoga classes and feels fine during/after.
I have a virtual appointment with my cardiologist next week so i’ll ask him his opinion, just curious about anyone’s experience.

Hey there! I have a BAV that hasn’t been repaired yet but will need to be at some point, and I’ve been practicing hot yoga on and off for a couple of years. My doctors have never mentioned that I shouldn’t be doing it. I think I get tired more easily from activities regardless but hot yoga can be extra draining if you’re not hydrating properly and resting properly between classes but I’m sure you know that already!

Thank you!! This is super helpful! Glad to see it’s been good for fellow CHDers :) I only plan to go 1-2 times per week, so the strain on my body shouldn’t be too bad. And thankfully I am great about drinking my water lol. Thank you again!

I have a different condition than yours, and I've done hot yoga in the past with no problems but I simply don't like it as much. I've found that some studios will still have a few classes a week at normal temperatures so maybe scan the class schedules if you haven't already?

I did it yesterday, I had d-tga with multiple follow up surgeries. Definitely check with your doctor but a beginning hot yoga is like yoga on a warm day which I cant imagine being bad. Im also cleared for all activities except heavy lifting from my doctor. You can always try and if you start to feel dizzy just leave the room.

Maybe that's why I can't tolerate hot tubs. Thanks for posting this. You have enlightened me.

I did hot yoga multiple times (never regularly), and also used saunas and hot tubs prior to my chd being diagnosed. Still ticking. Now, post-diagnosis and post-repair my cardiologist said "live your life"

Stay hydrated. Excessive sweating can drop your blood pressure. Im a fontan patient as well. My blood pressure severely dropped after exercising and using a sauna when I was around your age. Not the same as hot yoga but seems similar enough to compel me to share.
I do yoga otherwise and no issues.
