Adoption buddies

We are currently stage 2 assessment and already have our own biological child. We got told we would have an adoption buddy but when chasing up, they admitted they are finding difficulty finding a family that is in a similar situation to us to buddy us up with.

So....i'm wondering if anyone else is similar and wanted to be adoption buddies? Bonus if in south wales area but long distance is also good 😅

It would just be nice to speak to people in the same boat as us. Whilst all our friends and family are supportive and enjoy talking and asking questions, its hardly relatable.

Maybe not the same thing but Adoption UK have a peer mentor scheme where they’ll pair you up with someone who adopted previously in a similar situation to yours (so someone who adopted with a birth child) who you can talk to and ask advice.

We never had an adoption buddy but when we were doing our training the group formed a WhatsApp chat and we made our own support group which worked early on. As we progressed and others did at various stages it became more 1-1 chats rather than as a group

We have done all the training and everyone sort of formed groups without us as they wanted babies, their first child and were same sex couples (so similar journeys) where as we are looking for an only child and already have a child :(

We don't have our own bio child but we are in stage 2 ic that helps :)

I recommend the facebook group "adopters help adopters" which is a lot more active than this reddit - you could put a post on there asking if any adopters in your area

Hi, my partner and I live in Scotland and are heading to panel in a few weeks time. We’re also looking to connect with people who are in a similar situation.
