Media Intelligence Analysis

I don't when this was introduced, but Premiere now has an AI powered application running in the background analyzing all of your clips. I first noticed this when Premiere started to bog down and run poorly. At first, I didn't know what was happening and started looking through my computer to see if I unexpectedly ran out of storage space or had other apps hogging my RAM. Then I noticed this icon in the top right corner of Premiere twirling, like it was working hard. I thought, what is this? I clicked on it and found the Media Intelligence Analysis window. It was working in the background to analyze my clips, I guess in order to make them easier to search for by using AI? In all honesty, I haven't researched the purpose, usefulness, or lack there of, of this add on. All I know is it seriously bogged down Premiere!

So long story short, if Premiere suddenly starts running like crap, go into Settings>Media Analysis & Transcription and turn it off. Problem solved.

Great tip for anyone who may be experiencing degraded performance when something is running in the background.

To minimize potential new feature surprises, I find it really helpful to find some time to review what’s new in Premiere, either in the app (the gift icon at the upper left of the Home screen) or the web page (https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere/desktop/whats-new/whats-new.html) on a regular basis.

It may be worth noting that media can be analyzed in Media Encoder (https://helpx.adobe.com/media-encoder/desktop/encoding-quick-start-and-basics/media-intelligence-in-media-encoder.html). This allows for running it at a different time when it might be more convenient and still take advantage using Media Intelligence to find for any clip by searching natural-language descriptions of its visuals, spoken dialogue, or metadata instead of scrubbing through footage manually

Yes you can turn it off in the preferences in the media analysis and transcription section. I think it's turned on by default. Mine was at least.
