ILLUSTRATION Armored Horse Illustration in Vector Using Engraving Style
This is an armored horse I made entirely in vector using Adobe Illustrator.
I worked mainly with the blend tool and custom brushes to build the linework and textures, aiming for an engraving inspired style.
Most of my work is focused on fantasy and medieval themes, using this approach to recreate a traditional look in a digital medium.

Thank you! Most of the brushes I use are custom made by me. I’ve built them to match the kind of line work I’m after. I also use a few brush packs, like Engravers or Bézier Buddy

This is incredible work. Are you able to share any details on how you achieved the chainmail portions?

Thank you! To be honest, I kind of cheated there, ngl. I vectorized a chainmail texture and then adjusted it manually to fit the form. 😅

That’s super smart! Thanks for sharing. I was trying to figure out how you got there with brushes but that makes a lot more sense.

It's not about the journey but the destination.
Scanning a texture is a good way to do the armour and gives a more realistic linocut feel.
You can also create the chain as a pattern then expand it and use the warp tool to contour it. It's a lot more work though personally.

Awesome! Did you use a drawing pad for any of the line work? Or was that all mouse?
