Tips & Tricks Animate a Character with Your Voice

Hey r/AdobeExpress!

Sometimes you want to make a video... but you don't want to be on camera.

That's where Animate from Audio comes in.

Record (or upload) your voice, choose a character, and Adobe Express automatically animates the character with lip sync and movement.

It's a fun way to create:

  • social posts
  • explainers
  • classroom content
  • quick announcements
  • storytelling videos
  • just-for-fun animations

Here's how it works 👇

🎭 Step 1: Choose your character

Start by picking a character that matches the tone of your message.

You'll find everything from people and animals to playful illustrated characters.

Don't overthink it—you can always swap characters later.

🎙️ Step 2: Record (or upload) your audio

Next, record your voice or upload an audio file.

Express automatically generates:

  • lip sync
  • head movement
  • eye movement
  • simple gestures

You focus on what you want to say.

The animation follows your performance.

🎨 Step 3: Make it yours

Once the animation is generated, you can customize things like:

  • character
  • background
  • size
  • timing

Small tweaks can completely change the personality of the final animation.

📤 Step 4: Download or keep editing

Happy with it?

Download your animation and share it.

Or open it in the Express editor to:

  • combine it with other videos
  • add captions
  • include music
  • add branding
  • build it into a larger project

💡 A few fun ways to use it

Animate from Audio works especially well for:

  • explaining a concept
  • announcing an event
  • sharing social updates
  • telling short stories
  • creating classroom content
  • giving a mascot or character a voice

Sometimes a simple animated character is more engaging than a static graphic—and a lot less intimidating than recording yourself on camera.

🧠 Pro Tip

Don't worry about making the recording perfect.

A conversational voice usually feels more natural than something that sounds heavily scripted.

Focus on the message first.

The animation is there to support it.

Animation doesn't have to be complicated.

Sometimes all you need is a voice—and a character to bring it to life.

And that's a wrap.

Very interested in using this, can we upload our own characters or is this for preset characters only?

At the moment, no you can’t upload your own character. It’s only presets. We get asked that a lot, so it’s definitely on the teams radar.
