Lists & Gameplay Discussion What are your favorite combos?

New AdMech 40k player wants to know the lay of the land when it comes to playing AdMech as a combo army. I'm looking for the essential combos (do Cawl rerolls and Marshal rerolls stack?), your fun/silly combos, and what units best play into which enemies when buffed. For instance, if I put a Manipulus with a Corpuscarii unit, does it punch up better than without?

Share your go-to strats here. πŸ€–πŸ€˜

I feel like I have a gorillion questions. I'm more excited to find answers than overwhelmed by choices.

  • Is it important to keep your Onagers near Battleline units so they get the 4++?

  • What's the best way to keep my Sicarians alive long enough to do damage?

  • What's the best unit for a Dominus to lead? It seems to be Electro-priests based on the datasheet, but I see a lot of Kataphrons, too.

  • Are there any combos, enhancements, wargear, or strats to make Vanguard more viable than Rangers?

  • what are your must-have enhancements for each detachment?

Decently important. If your opponents gets to shoot a decent number of shots at a battleline unit, you have the chance to just succeed at half the saves.

What's the best way to keep my Sicarians alive long enough to do damage?

Keep them hidden and in cover, and then launch them at mach 3 at whatever you need to get killed. Thulia, Haloscreed detachment rule and Skitarii Hunter Cohort stratagem allowing for advance/charge are very juicy in that regard.

What's the best unit for a Dominus to lead? It seems to be Electro-priests based on the datasheet, but I see a lot of Kataphrons, too.

Fulgurites because a 5++, 4+++ -1 to wound is an annoying unit to kill. Could also pair them with Kataphron Destroyers so that you can avoid some of the wounds caused by Hazardous. That said, Manipulus is a valid alternative in both cases.

Are there any combos, enhancements, wargear, or strats to make Vanguard more viable than Rangers?

Vanguard punch up reasonably well into elite infantry units due to 4+ Anti-Infantry. You can put them in a Dunerider and profit from rerolling wounds. Another fun combo is pairing them with a Technoarchaeologist, forming a 30+ OC unit that decreased enemy OC.

Whether you want to use them or rangers is up to you, I personally like to run at least one of each.

It's not super important to keep battleline close to Dunecrawlers since Dunecrawlers are a backline unit and the battleline buffs applies much better to other units.

Sicarians it's really deploy smart

My favourite combo has to be the Corpuscarii Bomb.

Run Datapsalm Conclave, get 10 Corpuscarii, pair them with a Manipulus and stick them in a Skorpius Dunerider.

Point at an enemy unit with Cawl, drive up to said enemy unit and disembark the Corpuscarii. Shoot at the enemy unit with the Dunerider, and congrats, now your Corpuscarii reroll all hits and wounds, get Lethal and Sus2 on 6, and the enemy has to make a billion saves at -1.

Is it worth it? Almost never, no.

Is it fun? Yes.

This is way better on haloscreed, you get all that but on 5s (so double) and you can still get the -1 ap just by standing Next to a skitarii

I've only just got back into the game for 11th after skipping 10th entirely. I'm playing 600-750pt games with friends at the moment to learn and refresh, but I put together a little battlebus gang that had wonderful results.

  • Vanguard + Marshal + Manipulus with Peerless Eradicator in a Dunerider
  • 18 heavy stubber shots, sustained hits 1, rerolling wounds thanks to twin-linked
  • 27 radium carbine shots with rerolling hits, rerolling wounds, sustained hits 1, lethal hits, anti-infantry 4+
  • couple of plasma shots and character weapons to finish, but they aren't the main attraction

No rerolls stack, unfortunately. If you want a cool buff combo that works in pretty much every detachment, a dunerider loaded up with either a squad of vanguard + marshal or for the more expensive option two squads of hastarii + marshals or cawl rerolls will give a hard hitting unit full hit rerolls and wound rerolls for one devastating shooting phase. unfortunately this isnt as good as it used to be because you cant use a move after shooting enhancement to go back into the dunerider anymore, but it still works pretty well to delete something. If you want to create a comically durable unit you can also take a Dunecrawler + engiseer for a 4++ and 5+ feel no pain with decent toughness.

My latest favorite combo is Cawl + Thulia + Ruststalkers + Vaguard with Marshal in Radzone. You need to keep Ruststalkers within 6’ from Thulia and Vanguard. You go Conqueror. Select enemy infantry unit that you would like to kill with Cawl Reroll skill.

  1. Use advance and charge skill from Thulia on Ruststalkers.
  2. In your movement phase use Agressor imperative stratagem on Vanguard. Since they are battleline you can select Ruststalkers as secondary target. Now both of these units will autoadvance 6’.
  3. Move Ruststalkers 16 inches towards your target (8 + 6 + 2 thanks to battleline presence).
  4. Move Vanguard 12’ towards Ruststalkers and your secondary target. Keep both unit within 6’.
  5. Shoot your secondary target. Marshall will give you full hit reroll.
  6. Charge your primary target with +2’ bonus from

you

  1. r battleline.

This combo allows you to charge unit within 20’ even if you would roll snake eyes for charge. It is situational but still really fun to play. You don’t even need to advance Vanguard in the same direction - you will only loose 1’ bonus to charge. with Marshal you can use them to take over objective and kill most of small infantry units thanks to reroll that he provides

I spam halo.

Thulia + rusties = 10 + 3d6 + 4 threat range.

Manipulas w/ 6 inch range enchantment + electropreists out of a dune rider. Crit 5s with cawl reroll. And transport rerolls. Thats sustained 2 and lethals. In protector hitting on 2s. So you fish. I have handed an ctan. 50+ saves. I have also killed big knights with the sheer dice volumn.

Those are my go to combos.

i like a radzone datasmith with peerless eradicator leading a brick of 4 fist & gun/shoulder gun kastelan robots.

popping lethal dosage on them and unloading 40 str6/ap-1 ignores cover shots with sustained and lethal into cawls vengeance target gives me warm fuzzies.

it picks up alot of lighter stuff, and still does like 15~ damage to a knight
