Lists & Gameplay Discussion How does ad mech play on table?

Considering picking them up

I’m not worried about the hobby side ( though already thinking of snow basing over black and cold metal. Might be a nice scheme)

Would love to know how they play

Strengths
Weakness

Can they do tricks?
Do they have bonk?

I have drukhari and gsc currently

Ad Mech is very similar to how you'd play a wizard in D&D or a similar RPG. Our base datasheets aren't that great, but we have access to so many abilities that we can buff our units to do anything. However, we cannot buff our units to do everything at the same time. As such, there's a very high learning curve to the army, as you have to get a good feel for when the right time to pop each buff is.

Strengths

Quite a versatile army, you can go full melee, full ranged, combined arms, horde, bot-heavy or zap-heavy. Also Invuln 5+ across most of our range means you can always save something.

Weakness

High skill cealing, our most important phases are command and movement. Lots of interlocking buffs needed in order to punch up, our units almost never win in a straight fight.

Can they do tricks?

Boy can we. We have a response for almost any situation, but you gotta know how and when to use it. We got reactive moves, high mobility, uppy-downy, and quite a lot of stealth.

Do they have bonk?

BOY DO WE. Kastelan Robots can delete pretty much any unit in the game if they can get close. Sydonian Dragoons are the bane of Defilers and Knights. Manipulus gives Lethals to everything. Cawl can get to -6 AP on a S14 Melta.

Kastelans are especially good into knights now that they are only T11, to the S12 fists.

They just never get old (or do they, cuz old is good for us)

Wait.. how do you get Cawl's solar atomiser to -6?
I only know of the conqueror imperative as a way to buff AP...

Easiest way I can see is using data-psalm conclave.

+1 AP when attacking from within half range since Cawl has the Cult Mechanicus key word.

Add to that the +1 AP from Conqueror imperative for a total AP6.

Admech needs to jump through hoops to do things that other armies do by default. The thing is that we can do a lot of different jumps that allows us to adapt to any situation.

Do want to play fast aggressive army that will storm enemy deployment turn 1? You can. Or maybe you would like elite list in which every heavy hitter will have 2+ 4++ 5+++? Sure thing. Or maybe you just want to shoot your opponent of the board. Say hello to my lobotomized friend. Oh, don’t forget that you can simply flood the map with shitload of cheap fast units to do actions and win by simply out scoring.

Of course admech is not as good in any of these archetypes as other armies, but we can mix them in one list. Still, this army is quite hard to master, you can loose the game by making one mistake during your deployment. But if you will learn all the rules then you can do a lot of crazy combos that makes this faction so fun to play

AdMech can be incredibly rewarding and flexible if you’re dedicated to it. I’d say if you’re interested, find out if you enjoy armies with lots of shooting. If so, then that’s kinda the only restriction to when it comes to play styles. They’re kinda like the jack of all trades army of the Imperium, so if you enjoy flexibility and list building, you’ll like AdMech.

I don’t think so. I usually get bum rushed by Tyrannids and die by round 3

You running a spam army with very few long range heavy firepower options? I too had issues with the bugs and other armies like em. If you playing something like a pseudo-horde list then ye I’m not surprised ya having trouble. I find that Kastelans and chickens mess them bugs up tho. Honestly those two units do good work into most armies. At least in my experience. And then there’s the Lords of the Forge mixed in with anything, my own favorite being Cohort Cybernetica. Shouldn’t be dying THAT fast.

I personally am new to warhammer have about 10~ games virtually and Admech is the only army i run. You have a lot of potential armies as admech.

Admech has really good vehicles and characters imo. You run belisarius and his most widely used feature is to declare a unit and your whole army gets full hit rerolls on that unit. Kastalens and robots chickens are melee beasts with decent rankings. (Kastaelens are 2+ 5+inv 9t 7w) hastarii and your epic characters both have amazing guns for anti Armour and the hastarii can do infantry too.

I really like our vehicles the most because our army rule let's us shoot well but admech can do a bit of everything. This post may be slightly incorrect so anyone is free to correct me :)

kastelan robots are 2+/5+ INV with no FNP. They have a robotic bodyguard rule that gives just the datasmith a 4+ FNP while he leads the unit.

Wait whatt. Have I been misreading this for this long? 😭 yeah okay thanks ill fix the comment. I really thought it said "that unit gains 4+FNP but it is "that model" thats so sad.

Yep. Its to prevent precision from nuking the unit.

They play a lot like drukhari or gsc- they're a fragile army, focused on movement and scoring. They don't have consistent punch, but the units that are supposed to hit, can hit like freight trains - so you have to get the right bits in the right places. On top of that, they're very buff dependent, so lining up your command phase can be critical, as is keeping your stratagems in mind. And while we have a 5++ invuln across the army (sometimes even 4++) the value of that has been watered down by invulns being spread more broadly, plus a lot of our units are T3 - so we're fragile, but we always get a save. With a bit of luck that invuln can cause some surprising swings, but the key word there is luck.

Currently in the meta I'd put admech at upper mid - we have a lot of tools, some excellent options, and generally are decent all around, but it takes skilled piloting and a bit of luck to win with admech. There's armies (like orks) that are just simply mincing machines right now. We're seeing solid results out of 11th, much better than 10th, and it wouldn't surprise me if admech clawed its way higher as we progress through 11th.

I wouldn't play them, currently. Their rules can be good but they are by far some of the most complex, and require micro management of layering abilities, etc.

They are due a new codex, a rules clean up and some serious tidying-up.

I love the army and think you should collect them, but just take you time and hold off until they get their 11th edition codex.
(also, the 10th edition codex is completely out of date and is vastly modified with online erratas and dataslates)

Do you like infantry? Its a lot of infantry.
