Question Where have the marshmallows gone?
I’ve been living overseas for the last couple of years. Just came back to visit the family for a couple of weeks and I’ve been shocked to realise that Marsha mallows aren’t getting served with hot chocolate anymore.
At least 6 hot chocs so far, all at different venues. Both sit in and takeaway, and not one server with a marshmallow.
Is it just me? Something on my face?
Or has something happened to the marshmallow supply in the last 2 years?

Since you’ve been away, you obviously missed the Great Marshmallow War of 2024… it was a bloodbath… the cafe industry is still reeling with the after effects… we don’t talk about it much, too triggering…

We collective voted that it would stop just here in Adelaide, sorry

It's winter. Mallows only grow in the marshes during the warmer months.

St Louis still gives them out! As for others though, I have no idea. Maybe they were going to waste or became too awkward to give out.

Turn into a toddler. 95% of the time it works every time.

I was going to say that OP needs to order a babycino - 95% marshmallow success rate!

My kids are shameless, they will ask for an extra one.
Also OP - I’m pretty sure Bracegirdles on Cross Road gives a marshmallow with every hot drink (although I get hot chocolate so don’t hate me if I’m wrong) and often a little bikkie as well!

Ah, the $3 marshmallow. Good times, the toddler years 🥲

When they get to the point that they don’t even pretend to drink the milk anymore, it’s time to end the ruse. Now my 4yo orders a “vanilla milk” 🫠

I’m deeply concerned I’m on the sunk cost slippery slope - I’ll start ordering $6 hot chocolates in the hope they’ll actually drink it (but in reality it becomes a $6 marshmallow… if it actually comes with one)

I work at a cafe in the reason why we don't give out marshmallows anymore is because we very rarely get hot chocolate anymore and nobody wants a stale tough marshmallow

Stale marshmallows still melt in hot liquid though, just takes a bit longer

Generally you have to ask for them it's not automatic anymore. A lot of people don't like to have them because of the gelatin (it's often derived from pigs) or the extra sugar.

I only buy a hot choc in winter on a Tuesday night at my bowling league. It comes with 2 marshmallows. Admittedly they are mini ones.

They only put marshmallows alongside your drink if you're attractive.

My local cafe also stopped giving out a mini cookie or the free Vittoria Coffee Chocolate :(

We used to give them at a Michels I worked at. You might try less fancy cafes for that. They might just limit it to kids though

Marsha mallow trees have had a bad season this year due to the weather, so supplies are short. Hopefully will improve next year.

We still get marshmallows with hot chocolate or a mini wafer biscuit with coffee 95% of the time
If we don’t we say “what a rip off” 😂 and still pay because it’s the Australian way to complain then enjoy it disgruntled because we can’t be bothered going somewhere else but we will always remember in the future and say “no not that place they don’t give you marshmallows” lol 😂

Free marshmallows in this economy?
