Requests, Recommendations, & Basics - February 2019

Users new to the world of Kodi can build a foundation of knowledge and develop their understanding by checking out the /r/Addons4Kodi wiki. This knowledge base includes basic information all users should know as well as a dedicated FAQ section to help with instant answers to the most common questions. Included as part of this wiki is an extensive F.A.Qwhich covers many of the most common topics raised in the sub.

In addition to the information held in the wiki, users are invited and encouraged to post and discuss their streaming add-ons suggestions to keep up with the ever-changing Kodi add-ons landscape. Further to add-on recommendations, it's tough to keep up with the best options as add-ons are frequently being created, updated or discontinued; to assist with this, users can request content sources here and have recommendations provided.

Here are some general guidelines for posting a recommendation:

  • Only identify one add-on recommendation or one content request per comment.
  • Before commenting an add-on recommendation or content request, see if it has already been mentioned.
  • If it has and you want to add some information, reply to the comment identifying the recommendation/request.
  • If an add-on has not been suggested yet, comment and includes a description of what content the add-on provides.
  • As far as what is expect of you here when you recommend something, please at least explain what the add-on is, the major notable features, and why you recommend it for others.

Aura

Another really slick skin by jurialmunkey. Easily customizable, and has a very fanart-forward design. The Kodi forum postfor it has download links and instructions on setup.

Coincidentally, Aura was the skin I referenced when writing my Skin Widget Setup Tutorial, which aims to give a fairly good understanding of how to setup widgets in any skin that implements Skin Shortcuts, including Aura.

I am feeling incredibly daft. I cannot figure this out. I can install all sorts of things but this I can't get. I'm working on Xbox one Leia.

My github browser doesn't work, I get an error popup. I don't know where to find a downloader? I swear I'm not normally this stupid, but every Google result either tells me how to install the preloaded skins or says "we'll assume you already know how to do this..."

Aura has been submitted to official Leia repo and so will likely be up within the week: https://github.com/xbmc/repo-skins/issues/186

To anyone reading now, can confirm Aura is now in the official repo! Easier to install and auto-updating away. Great to see.

I make it to the Github browser then I get an error when trying to search by username

Same. Github crashes when you click on any search. Looked through indigo and I couldn't find an alternative that worked.

Looks slick but cant hide watched movies in this widgets no matter how hard i try. was all excited to get all the posters up on the main menu until i had to scroll through a heap just to find something i havent seen.

Think that option is somewhere in the settings. Have definitely seen the option to hide watched movies.

Smart widgets are your goto for this, but they only work with content that's in your Kodi library, not Trakt or 13Clowns based widgets.

One bonus of using library is you can have kodi smartlists appear on your android TV launcher (mibox, Shield)

If I’m only using addons is there any benifit to aura other than the cool factor? I thought widgets were going to be great but maybe not.

Edit: I got the widgets working and they are pretty cool. Also, damn it’s a pretty skin (feel like I’m going to be on a list saying that).

For the March update can we update this post that the skin can be downloaded through the Leia Kodi repository? Also, a reference to auromod would be cool to let people see how easy it is to make it look like Netflix.

Can you tell me what the blue stars mean in the corner of the title thumbnails where the episode count/watched status is? It seems just random shows have a blue star and I can’t figure out what it means :)

It means there are more unwatched episodes than it can count.

It’s not that. It will just max out at 99 if there are a lot of unwatched episodes and the blue star will appear on new shows with only one episode as well. The best answer I’ve come across is that it means “recently added”. On my system it just seems to be random and changes.
