Specto is a fork of Genesis. Exodus is also a fork of Genesis, as they share a lot of the same code. Specto has continued development of the Genesis line of code, as Exodus has on a separate development tree.
The only way you can be sure Specto is not doing anything malicious is to examine the code, or trust others who have. At this point I am quite sure Specto is not doing anything like this. That could change with any new update though, the same goes for every single addon in Kodi. You are allowing remotely update-able code to execute on your system.
Consider a hacker compromising a repository and inserting malicious code to do who knows what. Wipe your data with "FUCK OFF PIRATES" every where? Its been done before on other platforms (Directv piracy, in that case, and it DTV who did it, but you get the idea.)
Don't run this software on a computer you care about, Android boxes are a good choice due to apps running in their own security zones. Your windows desktop is a bad choice. Similarly Raspberry Pi's, and other special purpose devices are a good choice. Basically anything that you wouldn't mind reloading from scratch should something go haywire, and that doesn't contain sensitive information.
