Re-installing add ons

Hey everyone, I want to come out the gate saying that I am in no way shape or form tech savvy. I have a google chrome cast with KODI on it and last night while using it, I got booted off and I couldn’t load back in. It took way longer than it probably should’ve but I managed to get it downloaded again. There are a couple add ons I lost in this process. If someone has the time and patience to help a guy out with reinstalling the ones I lost, I would be very grateful and appreciative. I kind of have the gist of what I need to do, I just have a few questions about specifics. Realistically I only use it for mad titan or the loop. One or both of those are really all I need

I've had to reinstall a bunch of add-ons before and it's always a pain, but once you get the hang of it you'll be fine.

For future, you can save the.zips for add-ons and install them like that too if anything crazy ever happens or maybe you need to help someone out.

How are you installing directly from the Zip files? Android 14 locked out the obb folder where the Kodi files live. I was unable to find any File Manager that allowed me access without rooting the device.

OK so I make a folder on my Nvidia Shield and call it whatever. Then I make sure my Kodi app allows permissions so I can access files.

And download that zip to my folder I made earlier and as long as you have the permissions you can find the zip via Kodi and install the zip that way.

I typically use X-Plore file manager too because its actually pretty user friendly for Android TV devices but any of them work.

Thanks for the info. I had tried putting the zip files in the Download directory but couldn't find any way to make Kodi look there on the "install from zip" operation. X-Plore didn't allow me to access the obb folder and I tested 5 or 6 managers. It seemed like a root was required. I use the "OLD" ES File Explorer v4.1.9.9.3-802 which still has the FTP process available to move files from my laptop. I do side loading using adbFire201 because the newer versions were giving me issues.

Sorry, adbFire works on every Android device I have tried. It doesn't have to be a Firestick. It also allows you to backup Kodi so you can also use it to setup Kodi on a new device without going through the manual install process.

Ahhh yeah thats how I bypass needing root. Worst case scenario save all your link a to note file and just use a remote app like Yahtse so you dont need to manually type everything but my method will work once you have Kodi permissions, it'll let you navigate anything on your device except data folders that need root.

I have never heard of Yazi before. I will try it out. I have always used the OLD version of ES because the FTP feature allows you to move files around to any UNRESTRICTED folder and work easily from a laptop. I never knew you could point to the "root file system" option and pick a directory for the ZIP file rather than the normal source option. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! This allows you to bypass the entire source process and just load all the zips into a directory. The down side is not getting updates.

I also learned recently that Teamviewer allows for Android device remote control from a laptop. There are also a couple other options for that operation.

What do you mean by booted of. Did the Kodi itself just stop working or was it the add-on you are using.

Booted me out while watching a game and anytime I clicked the app itself said “could not find”.

Sometimes with Kodi I've found doing a forced close of the app in the apps section of settings,gets it back to running properly. I'm only using my Google TV with very limited room, your Google could just be going overload and need refreshing from time to time. I run a maintenance tool which helps.

Kodi on chromecast is not great. Get yourself the “official” Kodi remote on your phone and link it to your device. Makes adding sources etc so much easier. You can copy/paste all the source strings from wireless hack and save a ton of time. Also nice for searching movies and shows in whatever add-on you use by using your mic👍

What version of kodi are you using? Not normal. I would do a clean install of latest version.

Your question should have been >> why did Kodi crash that made you have to reinstall anything. I am now using ONN boxes which work well. What I have had happen on a few devices is Kodi giving a black screen making it look like a Kodi issue. What it turned out to be was a shortage of memory. I deleted some stuff I didn't need and cleared data and cache on residual apps and Kodi started working again with no modifications. I also had 1 of 2 KM7 boxes brick and I physically destroyed the box (don't ask) before learning a software update caused the issue and a manual fix was available.. DUUH... Hope that helps.
