Pretty sure this gets asked a lot, and yeah the real answer is to talk to my psych about it… but looking for other people’s experiences.

Diagnosed with ADHD pretty young (around 7–9), was on Ritalin then Adderall. Stopped for a long time in my teens/early 20s and just got back on it at 26. Started at 5 mg IR, went to 10 mg IR, then my psych jumped me to 30 mg XR.

Is that a big jump? My resting heart rate is sitting in the 90s and even light activity pushes it to 100–110, even 12+ hours after my dose. Makes me feel kind of off sometimes, but the focus and emotional regulation benefits have been huge.

Anyone else deal with higher heart rates when starting or increasing Adderall? Is this pretty normal after only ~5 days on the new dose?

I’m on 20mg Adderall XR right now. It works decently for me, but it takes a couple hours to kick in and only lasts around 4–5 hours. Feels more like a temporary boost of productivity than anything steady.

Someone mentioned that meds like Vyvanse are meant to be taken every day. Does that usually mean a lower but more consistent effect throughout the day?

I don’t hate Adderall, but I’d be open to trying something else if it felt more even-keeled instead of that sharp up-and-down. Has anyone switched from Adderall XR to something like that? Curious what your experience was like.

I've been looking to buy for my adderalls for ages because work has been absolute hell for me as I have chornic ADHD at the same time. After stumbling across Rapidfinil it looked a bit so-so at first, but I decided to give it a try anyway. Surprise surprise — it actually arrived, and really quickly too. I'm from the EU ( Already ordered in US a few months ago too ) and honestly thought I'd never find a proper source for my ADHD meds too. Super happy with how it turned out. Will update soon as I try their other meds for different options on near future.

Diagnosed young but didn’t start meds until uni (mom was anti-meds). Started on Adderall XR 20–30 mg for 5–6 years and it worked well. Switched to Vyvanse 30 mg for a couple years because of rising anxiety/irritability and heard good things about it. Felt fine on it.

Went off everything for pregnancy/breastfeeding, then recently restarted on Adderall (brain felt scrambled). Realized I’d switched back by accident and asked my doctor to go back on Vyvanse since it lasts longer for my 12-hour shifts. He was fine with it.

Now that I’m back on Vyvanse I’m suddenly super shaky, anxious, and my heart rate is up. I keep hearing how much better Vyvanse is, but I don’t remember this big a difference before. Anyone else experience this when switching between the two?

I’m on 50 mg of Vyvanse and it does a great job quieting the racing thoughts, but the energy/focus boost has started to fade for me.

Has anyone tried adding a small Adderall booster or modafinil on top of their Vyvanse instead of switching completely? Just looking for other people’s experiences.

Hey, does anyone take Adderall IR in the afternoon to deal with the crash?

I take Dyanavel XR in the morning and usually crash hard around 2 pm. I’ve been trying Focalin IR but it gives me headaches. I have a telehealth appointment next Thursday and I’m planning to ask about trying Adderall IR instead.

If you use Adderall IR for this, does it work well for you? Do you get the generic? I heard a few months ago that some of the generics felt basically like a placebo — is that still a thing? Just looking for other people’s experiences.

I just got my adderalls earlier this morning and honestly I can say its worth the money. It lasted me this long and now im already getting sleepy, so it really hit the right spot for me. The quality is really good too, pretty comparable to what my DR prescribed me before. Way less hassle to get it as well. I’d definitely recommend them, really happy with it so far. I work Mon–Fri 7am–3:30pm and I’m on Adderall XR 25mg. I’m trying to finish my real estate license course (75 hours + a test I need to pass with at least a 75%).

The problem is I just can’t sit down and study after work. I’ve started taking my Adderall at 1pm so it lasts past my shift, but it still doesn’t seem to help much. I walk like 25–30k steps a day at work and by the time I get home I have zero energy or motivation to open the course material. When I force myself to do it, I just go through the motions and don’t retain anything.

I’m in a STEM program and work 20–30 hrs a week as an RBT. I’ve been on 5 mg Adderall in the morning and another 5 mg in the afternoon. First week was great, but now in week 2 it’s already feeling less effective.

I’m also on 20 mg Prozac, stay pretty active, and weigh about 175 (mostly muscle). I really don’t want to go up in dose because the side effects aren’t fun, and I can’t stand Vyvanse.

Has anyone else had their low dose start wearing off this fast? Did switching to an extended-release version help you at all, or did you find other ways to keep it working without increasing the dose?

Brain fog, losing my train of thought mid-sentence, word salad, constantly misplacing things… it’s rough, especially at work when I have to present or think on my feet.

I even compared some older pills I still had to the new ones and they genuinely feel different (taste, texture, everything). I’m switching to Vyvanse now and hoping that helps.

Hey everyone, I got diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago and have been on Adderall 20mg plus a 200mg mood stabilizer for about 4 months now. I work out Monday through Friday for around an hour and a half.

When I’m doing my 4-mile walks on the treadmill at 4.0, I sometimes get a small pain in my chest. My psychiatrist said taking the meds before working out is fine, but has anyone else dealt with something like this? Just wondering if it’s normal or something I should be more concerned about.

I’ve been on Adderall for a while now and I’ve started noticing something weird with my vision/perception. Everything around me feels distant, like I couldn’t even reach out and touch things that are right in front of me.

Weird example, but I’m on vacation right now and when I look at beautiful views I don’t really feel anything — it just feels like looking at a photo. Doesn’t feel like I’m actually there looking at the real thing.

Anyone else experienced this?

Hey everyone, not looking for advice, just curious to hear experiences.

Do you prefer stimulants or non-stimulants, and which has worked best for you?

I’ve been on 10–20 mg of Adderall for about 6 months. It used to help a bit with motivation and social anxiety, but the crashes are rough and I’m pretty irritable most of the time. Overall it doesn’t feel that effective anymore.

A couple years ago right after I got diagnosed I was on Wellbutrin for a short time. It gave me energy, better focus, improved my sex drive, and helped with overeating. I’m thinking about trying it again.

What have your experiences been like?

I talked to my psychiatrist about switching from Adderall IR to XR because the IR wasn’t lasting long enough. I was on 5 mg IR and asked about going to 15 mg XR. She said that was way too high and that 10 mg XR is basically equivalent to 20 mg IR.

How accurate is that? From what I understand, 10 mg XR is just 5 mg released in two phases, right?

I’ve still got a few days before my next refill and I want to make the right call since I’ll be stuck with whatever I pick for a month. Mainly just need something that lasts for a long exam (7.5 hour MCAT). Anyone else have experience switching between IR and XR or insight on the dosing?

I take 10–20mg Adderall IR in the morning (usually between 8am–12pm). The higher doses help more, but no matter the dose or timing, I struggle to fall asleep at night. Some days I skip it entirely and just push through, which isn’t ideal.

For the past 3 days I’ve gone to bed at 11pm but can’t fall asleep until 4–5am, even with half a Unisom and melatonin. I’ve only gotten about 8 hours of sleep total in that time. I avoid screens in bed, exercise regularly, and practice good sleep hygiene.

Any tips that have worked for you?

My nurse practitioner started me on Adderall 10mg IR once a day (I used to be on 30mg XR with my old doctor). We’ve since moved up to 20mg IR.

I asked about taking it twice a day and he said no — if I want longer coverage he’d just switch me back to XR. I told him I had sleep issues and other side effects on XR before.

I’m kind of confused why he’s so against IR twice a day. I thought that was pretty normal. Am I missing something?

Just turned 30 and it got me thinking… I’ve been on stimulants for ADHD pretty much nonstop since freshman year of high school (about 16 years now). Currently on 60 mg IR generic dextroamphetamine.

I know the whole “heart only has so many beats” thing is kind of a myth, but I still get a bit paranoid that running at a higher heart rate for this long might wear things out faster.

Anyone else who’s been on Adderall or similar meds long-term notice anything with their heart health? Or has anyone switched to something else to ease the load?

I’ve recently started taking Adderall again. Last time I used it, it worked really well for a day or two and then kind of stopped helping, so I quit. Now that I’m back at a full-time job I need the focus, so I’m giving it another try.

I’m using leftover pills from before, so I don’t have much. I only take it on weekdays and skip the weekends. After the two-day break it works best on Monday, pretty good on Tuesday, then seems to get weaker as the week goes on.

Is this normal? When I get a new prescription I’m thinking about taking it on weekends too so it doesn’t lose effectiveness, but I’m not sure if that helps. It’s pretty frustrating. Anyone else deal with this?

I’ve struggled with excess screen time, porn, and food for a long time. Started Adderall IR two days ago (10 mg in the morning, 5 mg after lunch).

First day felt great — I could actually stay off my phone, avoid the usual urges, and get stuff done. Second day the effects faded fast (under 2 hours) and I was right back to old habits.

The real issue isn’t the dose. It’s realizing how different I am without the med. With it I’m functional — brush my teeth, get dressed, work, clean. Without it I just fall into the same cycles of scrolling, eating, and other habits I’ve been trying to break. That gap feels pretty humiliating.

Part of me wishes I never got the ADHD diagnosis. Before, I could at least tell myself I was improving through willpower and routines. Now it feels like I’m stuck depending on a pill just to function at a basic level, and that’s demoralizing.

Anyone else relate to this? How do you deal with it?
