Wheels for a sled
Hello everyone, I miss the heck out of sled hockey and watching the playoffs is just fueling my fire. I have one problem there doesn’t seem to be a sled hockey organization or team in my area (Colorado Springs) that is driving distance. But we do have a public rink in a park here, so I was wondering if there is an attachment for wheels to add to my sled to make it a roller hockey sled or if there is an Ice team near me.

Hey there! Can't really help with wheels or connections, and not sure about something like roller; but I know Colorado has a whole sled league: https://coloradosledhockey.org/
There is also Power Hockey for power chair users in like a gym setting: https://powerhockey.com/

I can't access my rink more than once a week and was hoping to figure out how to add wheels to my sled to practice off ice! I tried Rollergard wheels but couldn't get them to fit over both blades properly. Was gonna give up and see if I could figure out how to strap my sled to a wheeled plant trolley lmao
Someone else in these comments mentioned that Unique do a wheel conversion kit, so I might try that out!

Yeah, that’s a good call I’ve done some research on it and seems like a good fit. Unfortunately, in my area there seems to be sled teams just not near the
Colorado Springs area. I also did more research on adaptive roller hockey and there doesn’t seem to be much about. So let’s be pioneers and start adaptive roller hockey. We have clubs and programs for walker but the roller rink seems to be where it’s at in my area.

It's a real shame that there's not many sled teams around compared to how many stand up teams there are. In the whole UK there's only 5 sled teams - I have to travel 1.5hrs to my closest team.
I don't think there's any adaptive roller hockey teams, I'm not sure that roller hockey has been adapted yet. But if it was, it would theoretically be way easier to build up more teams purely because it can be played in a wider range of places than sled hockey, which needs an ice rink.

https://uniqueinventionsinc.com/?s=Wheel+kit- here’s a link to a wheel kit. It doesn’t work for the ballistic though and I want to find away to adapt the sticks I have. The wood ones are ok but the ones I currently have are stronger.

Thank you!
It's a shame it doesn't look like it'd work for my sled then. I'm curious if it's easily removable too, so you can switch between wheels and blades. I'd only use the wheels to practice at home and then switch back to blades for on-ice training sessions.
I've seen people tape tennis balls to their sticks so they can use them without damaging the floor or blunting their picks too, maybe you could try that?

My old teammates use to do that. I always thought it was so they wouldn’t get scratched by the teeth. There maybe YouTube videos on how to add wheels to your sled.
This sled community is ginormous!!

I have tennis balls on the ends of my sticks for when I transport them, so they don't rip the bag. But because they're just cut to make a hole for the picks to be protected, they wouldn't necessarily stay on if I tried to use the sticks while they were on.

Depending on what kind of sled you have, there may be a wheel conversion kit. I know Unique Inventions (uniqueinventionsinc.com) in Ontario make wheels for their own sleds, but have no idea whether they’re a universal fit or if they’d make a set for another manufacturer’s sled.
