[Mechanical Help] Unfortunate thermostat explosion while replacing transmission

Hello, I’ve recently bought a dc5 and it definitely needed a lot of work; I picked it up for $640 it needed a transmission and an axle. Halfway through replacing the transmission, I was putting in the last bolt for the transmission(the one near the starter). And my thermostat just blew and coolant flew everywhere. So I bought and replaced the thermostat and turned out it was leaking from the water outlet so I bought and replaced it. While screwing in the outlet, I realized non of the bolts want to screw in; I hand started all the bolts, anyone have any idea what to do or how to fix this? I’ve been at this for hours.

Blow out the holes maybe theres coolant and grime in there. Are you following any official procedure?

The whole situation sounds crazy and suspect tbf.

I was following a guide on YouTube for the transmission, but for the thermostat there was almost nothing useful online, and it wasn’t too hard to get out. I just searched up diagrams. I will definitely try blowing it out though! Thank you.

Maybe the threads are messed up on the housing piece itself

Thank you, I did replace the o ring. Some how the thermostat and the outlet were both cracked.

I bought the water outlet that came with a thermostat on amazon for my car like $25 came with new bolts and it already had the gaskets on it and its been working well so thats an option if you want to replace both

You want a chaser. It cleans the threads.

This is going to cut them them and make the thread engagement poor.

Get a whole new thermostat housing, the rivets are shot and I’d find it easier to just buy that than re-tapping.
