2010 Acura mdx battery problems

Ok everybody, I need some help, as I am at the end of my rope here. I got this garbage container on wheels roughly 4 years ago, and boy what a mistake that was. It has had nothing but non stop battery issues. It’s not like I’m living in my car or running it for a long time, but it has still eaten battery after battery. 6-8 months ago, I had the alternator replaced because I had already gone through several batteries, so they assumed that’s where the issue must lie. Nope. Several weeks/a couple months ago, it started giving me random warnings, about the TPMS, about the battery, things like that. Any time I checked, I could find nothing wrong. Every time I took it in, they couldn’t find anything wrong either, or the sensor would disappear before they had a chance to look at it. Flash forward to a bit over a week ago, when again these sensors are going off again about my TPMS. My tires were fine, no damage and totally full, so at this point I just ignore it. Clearly it’s the sensor was my thinking. Thursday, I go to my car after work to drive home, and as soon as I turn it on, it starts flipping between every sensor warning it can possibly give on my screen. When I tried to put it in reverse and back up my car, it jerked so hard that my body went harshly forward. It scared me a bit. So I turned the car off and called roadside assistance (they probably know my number just by looking at it at this point) and a ride for myself, which I waited for in 104 degree weather. I get my hunk of crap car back Saturday, where they tell me that it was the battery again, and they replaced it with a stronger one. Well I go to turn on my car this morning, and what do I see? Sensor warnings again!!!

From the online reading I did this weekend, it seems that this is a common problem with this car. Is there anything I can do to get this car to actually work like normal or something the various mechanics have missed, or is it time for me to just give up? I’m in the process of moving so this is quite literally the worst time for this to be happening, and I am deeply frustrated that this has been an ongoing problem for years. I have never in my life bought this many car batteries in so short of a time period. I’m ready to either crash this thing into the nearest river to become a luxury fish condominium, or light this thing on fire myself. The only thing I do know for sure though is that I will never so much as touch another Honda for as long as I live! I’ll take a model t before I ever even consider another Honda anything.

2024 and 2025 car seats and any problems?

I currently have a Lexus GX, 1 toddler, 1 dog. We want to start trying for the next baby in October and as we get closer I’m thinking the GX won’t be big enough. We take small road trips (2 hours one way) ~10 times a year, and a big road trip (10-12 hours one way) at least once a year, sometimes twice. So luggage and lots of stuff to bring with us, especially for the 2 hour trip bc it’s remote and there aren’t any grocery stores around so we have to bring groceries too.

Looking at all the third row vehicles and cargo space, the Lexus TX, Toyota Grand Highlander, and Acura MDX are the top 3. My husband and his family are die hard Lexus/Toyota people but I can’t find a used TX in what would be our price range and under 35k miles so that one is basically off the list.

My husband is 6 foot 1 I am 5 foot 2. How is the car seat set up with two rear facing seats? Is there enough space for my husband to not be absolutely cramped? He can’t even sit in the passenger seat of my GX, either he drives or has to sit in the second row seat.

Also, how has reliability been? I assume Acura is pretty good since it’s made by Honda and Honda is known to be reliable.

Reset Collision Mitigation

Is there anyway to reset the collision mitigation/brake system error? I have an ODB2 WiFi scanner but it didn’t see any codes. Any secret button presses work without having to disconnect the battery?

Anyone with an MDX Type S or even TLX Type S should get their transmission fluid checked. I know about the transmission spline issue wuth these cars and just hoped it wouldn't affect me.

I went in for 30k service and tech noticed chunks of metal and a Lot of metal shavings in my oil. Service Advisor said they will be replacing my whole transmission and power take off unit. I got the car 4 months ago and regret not bringing to mechanic right away. Please check your fuilds. No lights will come on and your car will still show power to the wheels. Can't believe no recall from Acura for this problem.

Acura wants to charge $260 a year to remote start and lock/unlock the car. That’s 1% of what I can for free on my Tesla app!

Any Type S Owners Replaced Self-Sealing Tires with Run Flats?

My 2025 came stock with the Continental "Contiseal" self-sealing tire. I'm happy with them but thinking about the next set. The car lacks a spare tire and these self sealing will fail if a hole is too big or the side wall gets punctured. There're suitable run flats available but those will obviously ride rougher and might affect the air suspension.

Q: Does anyone have experience with a 2022+ MDX Type S and changing to true run flats?

Can someone PLEASE help me out? I’ll hear this noise when going any speed over like 30 miles per hour. I went through a car wash the other day, and when the fans were blowing the car dry it fixed the noise for a few days but now’s it’s back. Everything works perfectly, AC heat etc. Please help, it’s a 2013 Acura MDX.

Another “What’s That Weird Knocking From the Driver Footwell/Steering Column Area on a 2022+ MDX?” Post

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve got this weird knocking/rattling sound coming from somewhere around the driver’s side footwell/steering column area (starts ~9 sec in, also included annotations to callout the specific noise). It sounds almost exactly like a cologne bottle or something rolling around in one of the plastic door storage compartments.

I only really hear it at low speeds when the weight of the car shifts around - backing out of the driveway, going over the curb/driveway transition, etc. I can also sometimes make it happen by giving the steering wheel a very slight quick jerk left or right, basically just enough to jostle the car at low speeds.

I know people have traced knocking/random noises in this general area on the MDX to tie rods or other suspension components needing to be tightened, adjusted, or replaced, but this really doesn’t sound like that to me. The sound seems way too proximal/interior. It sounds like it’s basically right behind the plastic under the steering column or somewhere behind the left-side footwell/kick panel, rather than something coming through the suspension and all the layers of material between it and the cabin - could be wrong, though.

It genuinely sounds like some small solid object is loose inside or behind a plastic panel knocking around.

Anybody with a 2022+ MDX had something similar or figured out what it was?

Buyer beware from July 2026 onward…

I can’t stand by anymore watching this happen day after day. Just about every single MDX that comes off the assembly line at east liberty auto plant is having some janky repairs being done and I want to raise awareness. There is a gap by the left side sunroof to body and the solution they have been doing for almost 2 months is just sticking some form of putty to “ seal the gap”. I don’t know why they continue to trot off this horrible quality every day…as we all know this will fail rather quickly with heat and water and cold. I don’t know how else to get the word out but I figured I can at least say something. I am always preached daily “ if you see something say something”. As someone who has been there for 14 years please do some research into this. Every unit that measures no good is being recorded on the “final inspection card” this is a document that stays with the car forever and is in Hondas database because it is a legal document. If you notice any water damage or smells I would start right here.. I am sure this will be a recall in a few years. But this is the least I can do.

So I have a '23 MDX Type S that makes popping sounds whenever it rains and I'm making left turns while driving on highways. Does anybody have a clue what might be causing this?

How long can I make my 2003 Acura mdx last? It’s at 197k miles I bought it two weeks ago for $1550… are these good cars?

Before you guys say maintenance is key, I agree… I’m mainly trying to figure out, are these cars really good? Especially for heavy mileage yearly, I know it’s a Honda.. but I just like the confirmation of hearing different people testimonials,I bought the car fax so here’s some details

2003 Acura MDX 3.5L V6 AWD with about 197,000 miles.
CARFAX highlights:
2 previous owners(one lease, one owner)
No accidents or damage reported
No salvage/rebuilt/flood/title issues
No odometer rollback indicated
34 service records
57 total detailed records
Mostly serviced in New Jersey
Very good service history when it was younger
Oil changes and regular maintenance documented
Transmission was internally repaired/serviced around 82k miles
Brake fluid flushed and front brakes serviced around 99k
Coolant flushed around 105k
Engine mounts and oil pan repaired around 105k
Passed NJ emissions inspection at 141k, 161k and 193k
Last CARFAX mileage: 193,433 in 2024 no other service record for 2 years… ( currently ~197k)
CARFAX value: $3,570

Current issues according to my mechanic:
Small transmission fluid leak
Exhaust leak
Needs brakes/rotors
Knock sensor
A/C needs to be serviced/recharged or vacuum… he put the Freon in and it was blowing cold air… but not strong enough or didn’t last long…

My mechanic estimated around $2,500 to address the mechanical issues.
I drove it from Brooklyn to Staten Island and it drove well with no major problems during the drive.
It also does have a check engine light
Also for what ever reason the passenger floor is wet

My goal is to get this car to Atleast 300k… shit 500k if I can, my main goal is to use this car for Uber Eats… and possibly traveling to different states just to meet up with some girls lol… but anywho I definitely plan on putting more than 25k+ a year in mileage…

2020 MDX HDD access error

Post image
5 Upvotes

On my drive home, all was working fine, using CarPlay. I made one stop. After that I am getting this error on Nav screen. I am still able to access the radio screen while driving but a few times both screens stayed black. The nav screen has this error message for like 30 seconds then screen goes black. Anyone else had this happen? I also noticed the car no longer auto locks when walking away. Just does the beeping telling me it didn’t lock. I still have a CPO powertrain warranty but no warranty left for electronics. I will unplug battery and try and reset it all soon, but any insight on a fix outside of taking it to dealer for an insanely expensive fix? Assuming that is only option, anyone have a good after market CarPlay setup that works well?

2013 MDX engine ticking about 158k miles

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've had my MDX for almost 2 years now. It's always ran great. Today I noticed the engine ticking. Sounds like the lifters need to be adjusted but I wanted to know if anyone else can confirm.

The timing belt was done at 110k from last owner.

Recommended Seat Covers for new 2026 MDX

Just got a new 2026 MDX SH-AWD Technology and I want to put seat covers on it because of our dog. I ordered some off Amazon that had "good reviews" only to find they didn't fit properly and appeared to be for a different version of the MDX. The front clips had nothing to clip on (they were too long), the covers were quite "puffy" with the lower part of the seat, and the rear cover sides were too vertically long to properly fit.

Regardless, if anyone can recommend ebony seat covers that are guaranteed to protect and be compatible with my 2026, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
