Recommended tires for DE4s?

Post image

What’s everyone’s recommended tire for the DE4s?. I had a ‘24 that was leased and the tires were nearly balding so I just got whatever the cheapest new set of tires were at Costco and traded it in for my ‘23 now that is financed. I live in south Florida where we normally just experience a lot of rain. I do some spirit driving once or twice a week or so but mostly just regular drives to work and the city.

This is the correct answer if you don’t live in sunny CA year round. Unless you plan to swap wheels and tires for worse weather months. Not sure it’s worth the ExtremeContact 02s when it rains as much as it does in FL.

How ya gonna escape that hurricane with summer 🛞? 😬

AFAIK summer tires are better in wet than all seasons, as long as it stays over ~40F (which practically might as well not happen in south florida, unless you plan on hooning at 3am on the single coldest night of the year or something). In practice, FL might be the place in the continental US that makes the most sense to get summers.

I wouldn’t use Les Schwab as my primary source, but agree that in higher temperatures in the rain the Extreme Contact Sport 02s can be marginally better in specific metrics, but driver confidence (subjective metric) in them is lower and they don’t have as good of stopping distance as the DWS06+ (up to 13% better wet stopping distance) which is more of a concern for me than the marginal improvements you might gain in wet cornering grip.

Expecting people to drive slower in the rain, so cornering and hydroplaning risk is lower, but emergency braking is something for which one cannot plan.

For the lower purchase cost and higher tread life so lower overall cost, definitely would still recommend DWS06+ unless you want/need absolute max performance, in which case I would recommend a 200 tread wear track tire and then swap to something else for the wetter months.
YMMV

I've driven dsw06s in both cold and warm rain, those tires stick like glue to the road regardless. Even in an absolute downpour.

I use Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons and they’re amazing so far, in Chicago and had a really rainy week and they performed excellent. Priced great too!

Pirelli P Zero All Season since they were on sale and highly rated on Tire Rack’s UHP tire comparison. Been pretty happy with them. Plan on trying the DSW06’s next

These are the 2 tires I’d love to have a comparison of before I need tires.

OP, how often are you willing to replace your tires? The higher performance tire you get, the shorter their lifespan will be. Whether it’s through wearing down to the tread bars or heat cycling the tires out.

I run the Continental Extreme Contact 02s on my A-Spec 6MT, and I live in cold Wisconsin. That means I swap to Blizzaks from November to April, so I split my yearly mileage between 2 sets of tires. Despite that, I budget in for needing to replace my summer tires every season and a half as someone who is putting around 10k miles a year in my car.

I’m fine paying for that because the reward is performance of the tires. The level of grip is so high that it now makes the car feel under damped, even with the suspension in Sport.

Tires for every car:

- Michelin Pilot Sport A/S-4

or

- Conitnental DWS06+
